Money no object Scope?

Not sure about the head shot thingy at that range. I for one could not guarantee a good hit every time and I wouldn't know of anyone who could.

Scope, my favourite although a bit heavy would be K624i and I hunt with it..... on my favourite rifle...a custom remmy... I choose that over a custom sako, tikka, mauser or howa that I also have in the safe.

The op having been a shooting instructor for twenty years is no doubt very capable... as am I and no doubt many others on here who have been rifle shooting for twenty plus years... But as we all know headshooting is a contentious subject in itself, and to admit to wanting to attempt it at the distance quoted is just asking for trouble.
Besides.... he'll need a nightforce scope and a highly tuned Remington of a larger than normal stalking calibre to be able to do it properly!

Personally I found your f@@k off post distasteful and arrogant and frankly unhelpful to his original question ?

also it could be done with any quality scope and calibre say a 6mm ppc or 6br , why do you say you need a larger than normal calibre?

someone said...if its to be used for stalking ....Sounds to me like it isn't!!! so... if money was no object then id forget buying a scope an f@@k off to a country where ethical shooting doesn't exist and you can take headshots on animals out to whatever distance takes your fancy!! and you might even be able to shoot at night with a lamp too!!
to suggest even shooting roe out to 300 yards let alone headshooting suggests you have little regard for your quarry! and to those guys who replied to your post... shame on you!!!!!

I agree with the head shots at that range being a little wrong but as for chest shots at 300 (assuming that the OP actually knows what 300 yards looks like as I have come across many shooters that say they shot this fox at 400 and this deer at 500, yet when you ask "how far is that tree" and they say 250 yards, then when you range it with a laser and find its 175 their stories go out of the window!) With the correct rifle and scope combination, practise, a good quality laser rangefinder, wind meter and ballistic information, I have no issue taking that shot on and have done many, many times without issue. If you are not confident in doing so or perhaps don't have the ability then that's fine and I admire people for staying within their comfort zone but please do not preach about it being wrong to do something just because you don't do it, we are all different.

Exactly tackb, at last someone who knows what they are talking about! 6mm BR all the way! Sub 1" groups at 300 yards all day with a decent BR. That would be my calibre of choice if I were to take the OP's shot on.

Dont want to get into an ethics debate about shooting at range.. and lets face it.. 300yds isnt really stretching things BUT..... head shots at that distance? the target is so small that a deer could very easily and quite probably move its head completely out of the way or put its lower jaw in the path of the bullet in the time it takes the projectile to leave the muzzle and reach the target..#

The (quite right) criticism you will get is nothing to do with ability... it is to do with being sensible and removing, as much as possible, any chance that the beast may be injured rather than dispached quickly.

spot on

From someone who has shot many thousands of deer with remmys, i don't see what the problem is.
Maybe just poor shooting?

Keep ya money in ya pocket a good man with a rifle can just use open sights out 300 + for head shooting !
