Morris Minor 4x4

Driving back along the M4 from Bath one day a few years ago, 75 mph I checked my mirrors and coming up behind me was a Morris Minor Traveller, it passed me as if I was standing still !! So I wound up the Toyota Yaris to 85 mph and it vanished into the distance.

Had the “countryman” in the late 60s. 3 pals and I paid £20 in total for it and toured all of Ireland in it without mishap. Then a few days later the front wheel fell off (which I believe was a problem with MMs) so we sold it and bought a Morris 1100 for the same money. Vague recollection the rear seats came out but who knows how many deer it would have taken - our thoughts were on more shapely “does” getting into it!
Golden days!

A firm in Bristol used to put a new floor pan in,disc brakes and a 2.ltr pinto engine in .
Sounds like you met 1 of those badass boogie machines.

First ever vehicle was a Morris Minor van, then had a Morris Traveller good car but I could not get rid quick enough it was
an old mans car and I was a twenty year old.
Wish I had it now.
A few years ago a local garage mounted a Morris Minor body on a SWB Landrover chassis , only the body was Morris
though all the running gear was standard Landrover

My dad taught me the basics of driving in his Traveller. Great family car. And we had a rear wheel detach itself and overtake the rest of the car as we were slowing down to take a corner.

Mine too! An ex GPO mechanics van with steel tool racks in the back. Paid £30 for it. Was ok really but when I discovered there was a restrictor between carb and inlet and removed it it was a lot better.

Morris Minor, the first car I ever got involved in taking an engine out. I must have been about 14 year old and the "spare" engine was on a farm. When we went to pick it up I was met in a passageway face on by the biggest charging pig I'd ever seen, YIKES, turned tail and ran like hell to escape by jumping over the fence.
Farmer fell about laughing but he did say " e's a big lad ain't he!"
