Mounting press without drilling bench?

With a 6x2 running from back of table to front, I've marked it out and the outer two bolt holes end up fairly close to the edges of the board. Enough that the edge of the bolt heads would likely touch the outer edges of the board.
Is it worth rotating the board 90 degrees and using it width ways if it gives more clearance either side of the outer two bolts or am I better having the support at the back edge of the table and less clearance from the outer bolts to the edge of the board?

Thanks

Better to use length of 7-8 x 2 and follow Druid's 'hook' idea.

Id suggest that you would more likely need the support at the back of the table to counteract the leverage.

I have a Lee classic press and it is bolted using countersunk bolts to a piece of 20 mm MDF which is about 2x4'. This i place on my dining room able. I put my reloading box on the opposite end and it works fine for .223 and .204. However if i am reloading .243 which takes a little more grunt then its easy to clamp the board to the table with a carpenters speed clamp or alike.

Out of use the press and board live in the garage.
