Since taking up stalking just over three years ago I have really started to enjoy doing skull mounts. Good bad or indifferent if I take a buck it goes on the wall.

Mrs N starting to get a bit tetchy as this is the downstairs loo. Had at least one dinner guest give a little cry out on entry ( not sure that sounds right ) . As I said to SWMBO if it upsets them they need not come again, and probably wont get invited anyway.

Am I getting odder as older ?
Has this been bought on even more by stalking?
Surely I am not unique in this respect.
Finally it gives me pleasure so I dont care.

Nothing odd about it, except that they're in the loo! Seems a strange place to display a load of skulls. About on a level with keeping guns in the bedroom. Definitely weird!

As for the missus getting tetchy, my tactic is to pile deer's heads randomly on the living room floor, until eventually she tells me to hang them up to get them out of the way. It might mean walking around a heap of skulls for a year or two, but eventually they go up on the wall.

I can empathise. I have been restricted to mounting skulls in my study and been told this behavior is not normal.

Things might be on the turn though, I shot a magnificent fallow buck recently and have been given special dispensation for a hall based location! It's a half way house, only visible once invited in, still, it counts as progress.

I'm still banned from peeling foxes again.

The answer is simple - get the love of your life out and let her shoot one then gush (to the point of nausea) about what a wonderful beast/head and lifetime memory she now has so obviously a mount (head/full shoulder or even entire beast - steady lads) is merited. In the heat of her ecstasy (whatever that was) she of course will fall for it totally agree and then the door to eternal displays is open! Simples…

I’m allowed my first stag in the hall that’s it in the house and restricted to two paintings of enormous trout I caught painted by the master robin Ade. There rest go in the workshop apparently “or build another bloody shed in the woods”…… mmmmmm

We have an agreement (if you can call it that), I get dead stuff, she gets pictures of her on her horse and rosettes when she wins them….. she gets another pic/rosette, I get another skull up, and so the theme continues….. one day I’ll cross the line and mount a horses head….. that should make for a wild evening of marital fun!

If I put up all the skulls and trophies I have accumulated over the years there would not be any room left in the house, let alone the bog. We have no trophies in either of the two bathrooms. I think if I drilled into the tiles, she would not be happy!

However I have some of the memorable ones adorning the stair well. That's about the only place with any significant height to put some of the African mounts. Plus my modest gun room, which has 3 other trophies yet to find wall space, along with 3 already on the wall, including my Mouflon shoulder mount.
I am one of the lucky ones, where my other half has no issue with where I put any of the memories, as I call them, up on the wall. She has even suggested hanging the odd trophy in the bedroom, which I declined.
Some of my Roe heads are in the garden bar, with a few more to go up as soon as I find a moment. As she runs the lodge when in Scotland, undertaking all the cooking and food prep, plus stalks herself, when we get a spare moment, and drives a 1100cc trike. I think she's a keeper
