Merino wool and proper-fitting boots.

Thin merino liner socks inside heavyweight merino hiking socks.

Good brands include Smartwool and icebreaker.

I find that provided I keep my legs warm the rest of me (feet included) is fine.
So it's long johns, trousers and over-trousers if neccessary.
