yes i am, but what do u mean innocence of youth, this has nothing to do with innocence im not saying "oh no dont kill that nice wolf hes so cuddly" all im saying is i think its wrong to shoot a wolf, take a picture lying next to is bleeding corpse and go "im a wolf hunter look how awesome i am" they might sell it they might mount it on a wall but they wont really get anything out of it except the thrill of it which is horrible "yeah i get a thrill out of killing something for no reason mainly cuz im allowed to if i kiled anythin i wanted to get the same thrill i'd get arrested"

No intention of getting into an argument or debate, but you have just answered your own question

yeah im not an avid fan of rearing animals just so they can be shot but then again thats what in essence a farm is with beef cattle, I would love to reverse time and live in the times of hunter gatherers only with the knowledge we now have on animals and preparation, thats my mentality for hunting, food and use, i admire the inuits that way, they hunt seals but use ever part, blubber for food, blood for broths and soup, they create household items from the bones and use the oil for lanterns and such like

You should read one of Arthur Cadmans books regarding Inuit wiping out a colony of nesting snow geese that are flightlessat the time then dumping the bodies as they shoot a "family" of carabou on their way home crossing the river. Not as some may have use believe a faultless race.

we are hoping to hunt wolf next year if we can drum up enough interest. As for weather its right they do untold damage to livestock and deer pig/ populations and are hunted under licence issued by those governments. So who are we to say its wrong.

for starters wolves haven't to my knowledge (and i have done various reports for school which included mass research on them) preyed an animal to extinction (but humans have, fancy that) they were there long before the farms were so its humans own fault for loosing livestock and as i've pointed out earlier there are ways and means of deterring wolves without having to shoot them

When living in remote northern Alberta wolves had to be controlled regularly as they loved livestock in fact while I was over there they killed a horse belonging to my neighbors daughter , not through any shortage of prey or meat to scavenge on as there were a lot of deer and the occasional moose cacarcass in the highway , no shortage of wiles there !

1066kieran, i never said they were a perfect example but every race and culture in the world has its pro's and con's

No you didn't but you said they used everything I was making the point they dont always.

wolves may not of hunted anything to extinction but then they are no longer the apex predators of their domain we are I'm afraid.

I agree with some of your points pb..but not all.
Personally....if given the oppertunity i would decline to hunt wolves for sport. In fact i dont really partake in any hunting for sport....as a pest controller all quarry that i take is done to prevent damage to crop or livestock. So, would i take a wolf/wolves that were regularly taking livestock....probably yes.....if it was my livestock or had a paying client...i just wouldnt choose to go out on a wolf hunt just so i could say "i have shot a wolf".
Equally, i dont think i would ever go on a pheasant shoot (in fact i would never "pay" to shoot anything)....i certainly dont object to it and see its place in the countryside.....its just not my bag.

I have never paid to shoot game but I am glad there are people out there that do as they have given me the chance to have an outstanding life style during my life.
As for shooting wolves, well I wouldn't go out of my way to do it(same applies for Big Game) but if I was faced with the situation of sorting a problem I wouldn't have any problems with it.

yeh thats a fair point but we are quite bit smarter than wolves and id hoped that allowed us to actually give a **** about the things we do, we may be apex ut that doesnt mean we can take out everything else just cuz they get in the way

Predatory beast I have to ask , what was your motivation in joining this forum ? It seems to me that you found the first thread that contained a mention of wolf hunting and stamped your opinion all over it because you like wolves ? I hope I'm wrong and that's not the case but it certainly looks that way ,

I have been watching this thread with some anticipation. This is a deer stalking and management site, and whilst we are all conservationists in our own way I fail to see why someone would want to come on here and bang the drum about Wolf introduction to Scotland.

I has been discussed before, and as I lease and run the deer management on an estate next door to a certain owner who has been banging on about re wilding and the introduction of wolves back to Scotland I can tell you its as far away now as it has ever been.

The total land mass on the said estate will support at a maximum 2 Wolves!!

Now if people want to join this forum it is about deer stalking and deer management, this is at the heart of the forum, not an argument about Wolf introduction. If you want to see the problem of Wolf damage and their spread across Europe I suggest you speak to people in Finland. Having some very good friends out there the influx of Wolves from Russia is now becoming a real problem.

And by the way I prefer a Chocolate hob nob to a jammy dodger:-P
