No, doesn't look like it at the moment. That's odd. I thought there was supposed to be an edit option on the drop down arrow next to the report button? There was a bit of discussion about this elsewhere.

I can get that it might be a short while longer but I can’t get that it should be unlimited in a general forum... think about it... someone replies, then some one changes their text and now the reply makes no sense, or it changes the way the reply was meant. Better they should delete it, and try again.

It was the classifieds I was thinking of, as being the main justification, although I do think 5 mins is a tad short. It takes longer than that to make a cup of tea and re-read what was just typed.
So in reality you have answered my question. Yes it can be extended on a forum-by-forum basis.
How about 60 mins on here .... ?
And, can you activate GIF support in 'Avatars formats supported' (ImageMagick PECL Extension needs to be set I think ?)

I would vote to have the unlimited editing time reinstated on the general threads as well....well editable for days at least.
I think the risk of a reply not making sense was covered in two ways...by the automatic notification on the post if it had been edited after a minute...and by the quoted post included in the response remaining unchanged when the original post was edited.
I sometimes find it hard to follow if people just reply to the thread when they are making a response to a specific post, especially in a popular thread...if they do not quote the post they are responding to then that is the confusion, not the fact the original has been edited.
If you can only delete the post and then repost the amendment later in the thread that will really make threads hard to follow, with chunks missing or out of sequence.
If you are trying hard to explain a complex point and are honing and refining it to make sense...the old software setting was a good safety net.
