Amarok 8 speed auto Biturbo is very good. Tried new Navara and Ranger and ended up with the VW.

And is it 50 on a normal A or B road?
I have read a link in the past of the VOSA site and i thought it was 10mph across the board lower. Althou u'd have to be bloody unlucky or really upset the cop to be done for it.
Never knew that about speed cams, can they also tell if ur towing a traileror not?

Pick ups are dual purpose vehicles and thus use the same speed limits as a car on all roads, so 60 in a 60 and 70 in a 70.
But, from what i have been told and read, the new V6 engined Amarok is now too heavy for this classification, and is 50 in a 60 and 60 in a 70.
I am on my second Amarok (2ltr Ultimate).

Thats wot i thought as well cody but there is a few different pick ups too heavy fo the dual purpose class.
Think it even varies with spec on some, i'm sure the wildcat spec was 1. but lesser spec's were normal speeds.

Not quite. The motorway speed limit of 70mph still applies to pickups that exceed the weight limit to classify as a 'Dual Purpose Vehicle'.
It's the dual and single carriageway speed limits that are 10mph lower than the National speed Limits of 70mph and 60mph repectively.
I don't believe it's just the V6 Amarok that falls foul of that as other manufacturers are also producing heavier pickups nowadays.
BTW. I love it when I hear comments about the 'little' 2 litre four pot Bi-Turbo Amarok engine not being up to the job! Obviously coming from those who haven't had one.

I did this about a year ago going from an old shape X-trail. I still think the old X-trail makes a great general purpose stalking and fishing truck that will go everywhere most normal people will want to go.
i ended up with the new shape L200 but started out looking for a ranger or hilux. What I will say is that the market seems to have changed a lot in the last 18 months or so and as a result the old standard answer to this question no longer seems to hold so my advice is to go and drive a few and see which will work best for you. The l200 was right off the bottom of my list and I wasn't even going to bother looking at one but once I drove it and did the sums it worked way better for me than the options. Your requirements will differ from mine so I'm not saying the l200 will suit you but before you rule anything out look at your use and drive them all. For me that produced an unexpected outcome.

For those of you with new Amaroks I assume you mean new old ones without the 3l engine? I have a VW Toureg R Line 3l chipped to 300 bhp and am told that the new amaro has the same engine in it. Can anyone confirm or deny this. I have tried to get hold of my local VW but they are less than useful.

In general terms pick-ups are commercial vehicles. Some pick-ups can be dual purpose if they meet specific criteria concerning for example extra windows, doors, seats, weight etc. (And whether pick-ups are cars or commercial vehicles for BIK purposes involves a separate set of conditions)
I think it's based on the Nissan Navara.

Yes I believe they are using the Navara chassis but with Merc's own engines, suspension and interiors. Seems a lot of manufacturers are sharing resources. I was looking at a Fiat twin cab when my Jeep was in for service. It is just a L200. The little Fiat sports is an MX5.

Depending on towing requirements I would go new L200 or new Isuzu.
5 year engine and drive train warranty I class leading and even though it's a 1.9 it goes like hell and pulls 3.5t.
Personally towig wig isn't important to me so looking at L200's
always a case of personal experience but I wouldn't touch Ford with a barge pole. Had one on an estate and needs a new engine 40k miles and 3.5 years old so out of warranty nearly 10k repair bill.

With a 1.9 motor,I think your UK model has a 2.4L in it also.
My model has a 2.4 Turbo as standard fare,goes like shiit out of a shanghai!
I checked the UK site and my model is listed at 29,880 GBP`s,that converts to $50 G`s AUD,I paid $35,000 brand new with the EOFY sales reduction from $40 G`s.
Thats a huge difference in pricing eh!

i think the 3l diesel in both taoureg and q7 are identical for a big ass car my taaoureg hauls ass. I would have the amarok if it's the same engine been on at VW to book a test drive but the useless ****ers don't get back to me which is annoying as they were clambering for my business when I was getting the taoureg.
