I have sold my tikka varmint to varmint223 off SD, today and my one for one variation is in.
I sold the tikka because of the weight (I'm a little guy)now the question is what lightweight rifle ?
I'm looking to spend £1000 on rifle and mod
Looked at the browning x bolt, all comments welcome.

Any sporter rifle will be lighter than the varmint you had.
Look at the T3 lite as you have a choice of twist rates.
Most factory rifles shoot quite ok nowadays, for extra accuracy
and concistency stock bedding or stock change and bedding is the way.

Thanks guys.... Any thoughts on the browning?...

After an eight mile day in thetford that varmint very heavy..

I have no experience with the Browning but they seem to get good reviews. Personally, with a grand to spend, I'd be looking for a mint, little used Tikka 595 or Sako 75.

Hi Mark ,

I don't know that much about them but from what i am reading the Browning X Bolt seems to a good buy new for not to much £££ , i was going to go down that road before we spoke

i've got a tikka lite s/s 243 and would't change, had 223 in steyer pro hunter it was good as well, but i looked at browning when i went to get 243, though it was to short in the stock and didn't like the feel of it,there not much difference in price.go for TIKKA :norty:

go for TIKKA :norty:

+1 T3 lite you cant go wrong ,bigboab29 off here just got rid off his xbolt after only a cupla months as he just couldnt get used to the rifle found himself taking his tikka 222 out most of the time.

I've just a pm from a member who's selling a tikka, so I'll have a look.
Thanks for the comments

Tommy let me know when you get the T3 and that you're happy with it..would have kept it if I was 6ft4 and brick sh""house build, super accurate gun.

Thanks for the heads up Jay 22 I've had a look and it's another heavy barrel.

Been looking at the Kimber rifles bit more at £1500.. Anyone?

Picked up my new xbolt on monday and shot my first Doe with its yesterday.
Its a nice rifle that gets a thumbs up from me.
I also like the fact that you can take the round out of the chamber without taking the safety off first.

Yeah I am drawn to the x bolt I like that feature.
If you don't mind me asking what kind of groups did you get when zeroing etc?
Thanks Mark

Ive had my xbolt in .223 since they came out, and for the money you will be hard pressed to find a better rifle, light, quick handling a reasonable trigger , good accuracy (sub MOA with 55gr bullets) etc,
As others have said though, you need to actually get out there and try handling a few different makes and find what suits you personally.

Sorry for the late reply but I've been working away.
After being set up with the bore sighter it took about 6 rounds to fine tune.
The final group was about 2 inches at 100m, no bipod on a windy wet day.
I'm sure the group size could be improved, but I was more than happy at that.

Mark

243 ... good calibre ........Have a look at Howa ....not expensive at all and is manufactured by Miroku in Japan, the Howa is also sold by Weatherby as the Weatherby Vanguard.... the rifles are available in Synthetic or wood... I would guess in the US$800.00 region , and is a solid buy for the money........If you want , send me a PM I could also find you something second hand and exotic in South Africa and at an exceptional price.....
