New rifle, but needs bedding

Deerwarden:- No I haven't shot it yet, but when it came with the wooden stock it had been bedded and the barrel floated so I'm going by the bumf that weatherby states on their site, can't shoot it just yet as I'm waiting for the scope rings to arrive.

You may find it shoots o.k. if you like the stock, find it shoots a reasonable group, leave it, or look at the barrel channel and relieve around the barrel till you get around an inch away from the receiver, being a synthetic stock it wont change zero like a wooden one will. Bedding is seating the action/stock around the rear of the recoil lug and rear action screws, if I'm telling granny how to suck eggs I apologize, but most sporting rifles shoot well nowadays, we just like to fiddle with them, its all part of the enjoyment, I've bedded all my wooden stocked rifles, but the synthetic stocked ones didn't need it as I found out after I did them. Try shooting it first, if you like the stock and want to bed it, its not that hard to do, all the best, enjoy the whetherby, they're well made rifles. deerwarden.

Cheers Deerwarden, I'll certainly give it a go before "fiddling" with the stock, I naturally assumed that being as weatherby bed their actions that I would have to go down that road.

O.K. I've bedded quite a few of my rifles now, its not that difficult if you're a practical person, pillar bedding is more difficult as you need to drill out the fixing screw holes accurately. Most all factory rifles achieve well under 3 shots into a 2" circle, some of mine, and my friends 700s do that easily. I just like fiddling with rifles and home loading as my background was engineering. P.M. with contact, although I may already have it ref case cleaning? deerwarden:)

I would have told him it was his/sportsman's mistake and they could fe#k off.

So now you have a rifle with a poorly fitted stock which is not as described? And you are going to try and fix it yourself and void any warranty you might still have on a shitty deal?

I agree. I'd have told him that it sucked to be him and hung up.~Muir
