'New' Swedish Mauser

Kind of. The front sight divides in half and there's a small circle inside.

I scanned it here...

Ahh got you! Something a bit more like this perhaps:

Yes, that's the kind of thing. Going to use similar patterns and laser cut a few alternatives.

One thing I'm a little uncertain of is that I have to pull the back of the bolt back a little to flip over the safety. Am I missing something?

You shouldn’t have to pull any part of the bolt back to engage the safety…..

If the bolt is in the fired position (forward unlocked no cartridge in the breech) you should be able to engage the safety easily and in doing so the bolt striker will move rearward visibly…..just slightly.

It goes without saying when the bolt is in battery ready to fire it again should be no problem engaging the safety.

I hope I’ve described events that makes sense to you.

It literally requires just a millimeter.

Remember that those actions are old and can't put up with the pressure from some of the newer ammo.

Before the majority of “Swedish Mauser” rifles can be sold in this country they have to go through the proof house to ensure they are safe to use, the proof house cartridges are in excess of what would “normally” be fired from them either factory or reloaded

This is the thing... if it's wrong, it's wrong. It would be good to figure out if it is wear or there is some issue that is for repair.
Is the striker numbered to the rifle ? There should be the last two numbers of the serial number stamped on the rear face on either side of the firing pin . If not , that could be the source of the problem . It could also be that the cam face on the safety is worn , or the front face of the striker . I have a large number of both and would send you a few but Canada customs has taken to seizing and destroying anything firearms related . They've done it to me twice now in the last six months . More importantly , and back on topic , it isn't that hard to fix and any decent gunsmith can do it for you . I can garauntee you can source both parts from Sweden with no problem . I've picked up a lot of parts , including new , in the grease , barrels , for extremely good prices . We have a few members who live in Sweden on here , I'm sure that they could point you in the right direction .

To be honest, it is a bit tough to engage but does seem to be easing with use. Perhaps she's just tight through lack of use?

From what you described at first the amount of preservative grease within the action leads me to believe your rifle hasn’t been overly active in recent years and maybe not used much beforehand, from your last post your suggestion “it could be from lack of use”….possibly….but it wouldn’t have been made that way it wouldn’t have been acceptable.
With all parts matching it should work perfectly but keep working it until you’re happy it works correctly, there shouldn’t be a problem.

I love everything gustaf or husqvarna

All I have are much later but I’m jealous!

If you want a simple route into reloading look at Lee loader - available in swede and all you need bar a hammer in a tidy box costing £30-ish

Back again.

So, started loading 129gr Hornady SST and found 45gn to be a good load for consistent results.
After some advice I switched to a heavier bullets in the form of 143gr Hornady ELD-X

Results... both bullets are a good 4-5" high with the rear sight at its lowest at 100m.

Still a little high at 200m

At 300m I changed elevation from #1 to #2 on the rear sight... still a couple of inches high. 2 on target, 1 miss. Target is A4 size.

This rifle/ammo shoots so flat.

I have a new front sight insert cut with a little pointer inside that is around 1mm higher so I'm hoping that helps with both targeting and elevation.

I also discovered that the rear sight screws had worked loose through testing today so my results at 200 and 300m may be a little skewed.

Having fun so far!
