night vision scope recommendations

Thanks Bruce appreciated, btw I gather you published a document detailing setting up go the Ballistics App on Phone & Scope, where can I download this from?
I'm struggling to find it in the huge long threads on this scope on this and other forums..
Cheers B

@ShootyBang did you ever get one of these for your BA-13?
Not yet... still humming and hawing. The issue is how many deer do i take in sufficient dark to need the NV, or should I just add some light-gatheeing to a conventional optic. I have identified a nice Leupold scope (VX-3HD 3.5-10X50 CDS-ZL ILLUM, "Firedot Twilight Hunter", the #180628) which might improve the overall stalking experience at the same weight (~500g). It would probably preclude a rear add-on. My impression was I wouldn't be able to get a decent illuminated 50mm objective scope without adding massive weight and bulk, but this is compact and light. So I wait and think....

I am however still considering getting one for my Sako 17 HMR... and maybe the Bergara if the need arises.

A pic of a fallow spiker I took yesterday with the Bergara and its Kahles 3-9x42 Helia CL)

Well I've pulled the plug and ordered a Zulus for my Bergara so hopefully with a good grip and the moderator I won't have any eye injuries😂 I do think the short dumpy Zulus will look good on a short dumpy rifle!

I've found that most the fallow are either out in sufficient daylight or in the woods and enough natural light, but on about 20% of the evenings I sit out the fallow come out when it's too dark for traditional scope, plus having the ballistic calculator will be a big help when it's too dark to range them with my usual range finder.

Here's the last fallow I shot with it, approx a 30m shot and I'd only stalked 2 mins from where I left the plasterers bath!

Love it. that's the 18" barrel? I've got the stumpier 16", since its all woodland for me. I was thinking about, should I get the Arken, if I get the LRF or not, since at the ranges I'd detect and the range I'd be willing to shoot, the drop is not something I need a calculator for.

[NB: I *ought* to have taken a big buck after that pricket, but after my fast reload... I forgot to cock! So had a dead trigger when I had my moment. Ah well, win some, lose some. ]

I think it's a 20" but overall it's still shorter than my 18" bolt action I had before.

Seems these digital day/night scopes are becoming more and more capable, especially for day use. I have a relatively heavy 56mm day scope on my already heavy thumbhole laminate 24" .223 to which I attach my Vulpine MK3 for night use. To date I've seen no particular advantage replacing my scope with equally heavy day/night units like the C50 or Alpex, especially given their low base mag for day use.
The Zulu seems to offer a lightweight alternative to the aforementioned day/night units, with it's higher base mag and image that doesn't go to pot under a bit of digital magnification. Historically I've had issues with digital scopes holding zero, hence my current preference for an add on unit (and a very good one at that). The Zulu with it's small size and big performance has certainly got my attention. It's also well priced.

Similar boat to yourself. I've roughly calculated my 4-24 Delta, Vulpine and Wraith IR weigh in at 1.7kg. Weight isn't my main concern though as 90% of the time I use a Z-aim sling, get to my spot and shoot off a bog tripod. I do however have a niggle carrying the Vulpine with me in daylight and having to attach when dark. I'll admit the Zulus and Hik 4k have turned the head. Then again out last night and between foxes took a few rabbits at 250 yards and thought "god I love this setup". Suppose what I'm saying is like you if we could get high mag without a seriously pixelated image it would be tempting. Hik 4k offers no weight reduction but I like a traditional scope style and don't know if I'm fussed on the mounting setup of the Zulus. Haven't a clue what I want😂

Do any users know if you can get the LR "crosshair" to appear in any magnification above the base 5X?

Until a 0MOA mount comes out my crosshair is quite high so isn't really lined up with the LR at all. Not an issue on 5X mag as the LR when activated has its own "crosshair" pops up but this doesn't seem to be the case when zoomed in.

Is this because it's not a function when zoomed in or because the crosshair isn't central due to the 35moa mount I just can't see it?

Unit has finally arrived and I'm going through the process of setting it up, a quick question regarding shimming. I've mounted the unit on the rifle and as I look through the scope the reticle is pretty much centra, which is perfect i.e. I have not put any shims in to counter for the 35MOA supplied mount. Will the reticle position shift once I zero it for a centrefire rifle or have I just got lucky and it will stay as is??
Regards

The reticle will likely move up the screen as you zero, especially if it is on a centrefire.

There is a 0moa mount available but it's on preorder @Blackwood Outdoors has them listed so it may be worth you waiting and seeing what yours is like and if you need a different mount.

So I have just been doing a side by side between the Hikmicro Alpex at £450 and the Digex N455 (not the C5) and I would go with the Alpex and at that price right now it is brilliant. if you do go for pulsar and indoor use even look at the Ultra N450 I have one my air rifle I use for the sheds and it is fantastic.

I expect I will purchase a 0moa mount at £40 and retire my coke can shims - currently has 2 but will need another 2 to get mine centre

Ive got mine alot lower, from experience using the 008 you are better off having the ret in the lower half of the screen for 2 reasons, the lower it is the more throw you will have with the inbuilt IR and if you have any issues with foreground whiting out you loose more of it when zooming in.
