Norfolk jollys

... a welcome change to North Norfolk that has collapsed under a beige tsunami of boring vacuous second home owners in their Lambo's Rangeo's & gastro pubs.

I spent some time in East Anglia, only eleven months, but it was the longest decade of my life.

There was one village the locals (still a few left) referred to as 'Chelsea by the Sea'. I had no idea why.

It took me a couple of weeks to work it out. Midweek the pubs were empty and the village was (it appeared to me) to be in darkness.

Come Fridays, the village 'came alive' and the lights within the dwellings came on.

Come Sunday evening/Monday mornings, the village once again went into hibernation.

It was of course, the 'outsiders' coming and going to their weekend retreats. Nice for them, but I think they must have priced the locals out of the housing markets.

It was no longer 'local shops for local people'...

Brancaster beach is worth a visit. Very long and sandy beach. Also Holkham beach is worth a visit, owned by the Holkham estate I believe. Hunstanton might still be nice, but avoid Cromer and Yarmouth.

Lots of places nationwide like that mate. I grew up in Conwy valley, areas like Betws y coed are virtually impossible for a youngster to buy these days. Sad.

See now people have such different views. Holkham is nice when its quiet, otherwise full of very shiny 4x4s and over-priced ice cream. Cromer, lovely old pier, nice beaches, local fishermen, plenty of pubs, easy parking.

Head on down to Horsey and visit the National Trust “windpump” and the beach there. It’s a good place to see seals. There’s a bit of a nature reserve and SSSI.
We had a great day out there

Anytime I cross the border I call in Conwy for some chips, if not Conwy then back through Betws to the Royal Oak (Y Stablau).

if in Conwy in summer treat yourself to ice cream at parisella, then get sausages for bbq from Edwards 👍

easy Len, Gorleston beach is lovely , there's a good pint to be had a the pier, breakfast at JJ's.
Don't get me wrong, the beach at Gorleston really is very nice, but one of the best in the world?
I work down that way a few times most years and they usually put me up in The Cliff Hotel in Gorleston, very nice sitting on the terrace in the summer overlooking (one of the best beaches in the world) with a pint. In fact, I'm offshore from Norwich right now.

That used to be my bag, spent many years travelling offshore, beccles, caister then Norwich. Finally desk bound, with younger people doing the biss. Stay safe

I was very impressed by Pensthorpe, my five year old even more so. Supposed to be a wildfowl collection but has a fantastic outdoor and indoor play area.

Got there bit late first day stopped in kings Lynn for supplies & first fish & chips. Honestly, found Lynn just a bit odd with odd people. Then onto cottage just outside docking, very nice.
Visited Wells (twice) we all loved it there. Walked to Holkham beach, stunning. Hunstanton (kids liked it, I felt sick on a roller coaster). Sandringham on last day, just the woodland walk as had dog with us.

We didn't try to cram in too much. Its rare we get any kind of break so was just about taking it easy. Will definitely return.
