That’s a new version though(I think) so the old one may be avaliable for less.
I’m wrong that’s a pointer I was looking at endeavour, which also looks good, but is cheaper.

British Army Artic smock. You want an old one though made from gabardine. Lightweight and windproof / showerproof. They are getting hard to find though.
Another option would be an Arktis smock. Preferably one without a waterproof membrane.

Otherwise I like Swedteam if you want something less military.

Why a smock? Is it personal preference and aesthetic, or do they have practical advantages over a jacket?
I own one, like the idea of them but find them a little restrictive, and a faff to get out of compared to a jacket.
With modern zips and materials they are certainly no more waterproof than jackets.

Only good thing about them , is you can keep everything with you rather than having to search through every jacket pocket .
Like you say a pain to take on and off .
No reason particularly, I’ve never had one and want to try one. I also have bad circulation and run quite cold, so the problems people associate with them in regards to not being able to ventilate don’t really apply to me…I can literally only remember a couple of times where I’ve been too hot and that’s really because I’ve misjudged how cold it is and worn stupid base and mid layers….
As you say though my ridgeline coat has done me well to be honest so maybe I should just stop trying to reinvent the wheel!
I have a few great smocks swedteam titan pro goretex being one, a bombproof beast of a smock it's only gripe it's rather narrow on the arms, if you can find one it's highly recommend they meet all the requirements you desire.
Other option is a keela parachutist I got one second hand and it really is fantastic lots of pocket options very waterproof and multi terrain pattern I really like, I don't know about it's long term robustness toughness yet but so far I have been really impressed, and you can get them at very competitive prices they are sized big mind you I'm 5.11" around a 40" chest and small fits Very well with enough room for layers.

It isn’t actually possible to have too much gear, or to spend too much on it. If you’ve got this far there is no turning back, you are pretty screwed. Marriage’s, jobs, friendships all play second fiddle to hunting.
There is a direct and proportional relationship between the amount of kit you have and money spent on it, and how super hunter you are.
So buy more gear!

They aren’t super robust but you can sew up the outer layer and it shouldn’t lose any waterproofness!
You can indeed. Can't do that with Goretex!

How long is this mate? Mid thigh/above knee or is it waist length?
