Old convictions at renewal time.

My last form asked for dates, I put: Speeding SP30, Circa 2007 etc.

Nobody questioned it...
The guidance is that you don't need to list traffic offences which are dealt with by a fixed penalty notice. So not declaring speeding convictions which you didn't go to court for is ok.

As always, this is my understanding and I'm not an expert.

Yes they can look it up and they do of course. However the onus is on you to disclose it. Its essentially an integrity test if you fail you don't get the certificate you commit the crime.
How many times do you have to prove your integrity?
Surely once is enough?
For a renewal “ no recent or pending charges known at this time “ should be enough?

You can get your medical forms done by Medcert, they apply to your GP for your records and they are legally obliged to provide them within 3 weeks.
I decided to use Medcert for my renewal this time rather than my GP who did the last one. I sent my med forms to Medcert in mid-August. My FAC expired on 12 Dec thinking 4 months would be plenty of time. They had still not produced it by mid Nov giving me various excuses such as they were having trouble getting my RAF records (I finished my RAF service nearly 50 years ago!) and then telling me the GP surgery had not given them some of my old records. I desperation a arranged a face to face meeting with the Surgery practice manager and it turned out that Medcert had been somewhat economical with the account I had received. The surgery were very understanding and the GP quickly produced a report in time for me to renew before the FAC expired. Medcert were unapologetic and refused to refund the fee. Where Medcert is concerned, Caveat Emptor!

I'm in need of a little bit of advice guys.
I'm filling in my renewal forms , and I'm struggling with the previous convictions part.
I've got a couple of convictions from over 30 years ago , and I can't remember dates etc. I usually just come clean and admit that I just can't remember dates etc , but , I believe that all details are required now . Can anyone point me in the right direction please ?.
I've tried to contact my firearms dept for advice , but as yet I've heard nothing back .
I gave brief overview of mine and wrote as per last renewal. This has been accepted three times now. They already know and just want to see if you are honest or not

I had a fairly similar experience with them. After my GP ignored their rfi they asked me what I was going to do about it !

Hiya spanj.
It's been so long . I can remember being in more than my fair share of trouble as a stupid youth , but I can remember next to nothing about the specifics. I was very fortunate, that the fld got back to me, and said just be as specific as I could. I've had fac/sgc for 25years , and haven't been in any kind of trouble whatsoever for over 30 something years . Hopefully all will be well.

Whatever you've written on your renewal forms for the past 25 years has clearly been satisfactory and achieved the desired result, so why the worry this time around?

It's mainly because of the scare stories that I read on here about licensing changes, and the way that the police are administering them.
It's difficult to tell the difference between what's real , and what's just speculation , paranoia ,or, overreaction .
I've read quite a few times that " no convictions since last renewal " is no longer acceptable, and that every little detail has to be put on renewal forms.
I've always been very careful with the way I deal with anything fac/sgc related , and in the same way , I'm very careful that I don't do anything in life that could could land me in any kind of trouble.
When it comes to the old convictions as a youth , it's been so long ago now , that it's just all got lost in the mists of time.

Mel that "stupid youth" phase you went through is best described as a character building process. ;)

I know . Unfortunately, it's one of those things that follow you for the rest of your life.
The problem when you're young , is that it hasn't sunk in yet , that you don't get a second chance . As you get older , you realise that you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

It’s daft that “no convictions since last renewal” isn’t an option.
But it isn’t, no point yelling at a form.
Put down the offence and the date to the best of your recollection.
As long as you’ve made an effort to declare everything you won’t have a problem.

Pity the same rules don't apply to the DVLA and driving licences. Any drink/ drug, dangerous driving history should definitely be taken into account. Now I am sure that would make us safer.

Easiest way to clear ANY confusion is to apply for a subject access record (acro)
Google it, there is a place that provides it for a very small fee, everything held on record is included unless it prejudices an ongoing investigation or puts someone at jeapordy.

Simply attach this to your application. (Or read through it and collect the info required and write it down.).

No guesses, no mistakes, no offs, buts or maybes, job done.

@mel b3 i had a look at the data base and your convictions and dates were as follows -

Charge of lewd behaviour in public - 15th March 1987.

Charge of cross dressing and soliciting drivers at an M1 truck stop - 25th June 1993.

Charge of public indecent exposure, 3rd Jan 2002 - charges dropped as evidence was deemed “too small to really see”

Being a cross dressing flasher with a tiny todger , doesnt make me a bad person !. And in my defence , it was a very cold night . If you come back in August , you'll see it in its full two inch glory 😁
