Old Scope On 300 Win Mag?

Hi everyone.
I value everyone's opinion, so all comments welcome :
I have a mint condition 26mm tubed Nickel (straight tube, no objective bell), pre 1970's, I'd imagine.
What's the likelihood of it not coming apart using it on a 300 Win Mag?

they were made quite sturdy, but age is a factor to consider.

If I was to share personal experience with putting scopes on 300Win Mag, ensure you have decent mounts, ideally with Allen or torx screws, and ensure you torque them down well.

I have set up a good few scopes on various 300Win mag rifles, shot well first 20-30 rounds after zeroing then all of a sudden they start bouncing forward (ever so slightly & hard to determine at first) in the mounts due to the recoil. So always worth checking the security of the mounts especially at the early stages when zeroing and first use.

I had an issue with a scope on my .300WM ages ago. Took a lot of expensive reloads before I pinpointed the problem. Quality rail, rings and mounts are a must as you get into the bigger, more expensive to shoot chamberings.

Cheers I've owned a 300 Win Mag for about 25 years, and your advice is true. The mounting is something I'm confident with, but wondered if the scope would fall apart internally.
I use 245 bullets out of mine, so it's a bit of a kicker.

It’ll probably be alright, but for the price of a SH schmidt 8x56 (circa £300) is it worth it losing zero at the worst time?
I'm fortunate enough to own many high end scopes, and these Schmidt, Nightforce, and Meopta, have been fine, but fancied mounting my lovely little Nickel scope.

Thanks for everyone's comments so far, and by all means drop a comment if you wish.
I've just emailed Nickel / Gerhadt ; so I'll leave their reply here in case anyone is interested.

I thought they had closed down 25 odd years ago.
You could whack it with a rubber hammer on the ocular end to simulate the recoil and see if the reticle is still there.

They're still in business, which is surprising, as their compact Magnum Safari scope is €4640!!!

Here's their reply:
There are customers who have done this without problems, but we wouldn't
recommend it.
Especially considering the age of the scope, and we also do not offer repair
services for this model anymore.

Best regards,
Dennis
