Epic 3,500km trek, 11,000 sheep, and the young drover history forgot
In 1882, drover Wallace Caldwell led the longest sheep drive in Australian history, but his story was almost lost to time.
Methinks that yesteryears men were made of sterner stuff.Hi John
Interesting read, remarkable man and the snapshot of a differnt time/environment round him .............

Checkout the living conditions in the trenches in WW1.... we breed pansies today, half of them not even sure if they are men.Methinks that yesteryears men were made of sterner stuff.
Without a shadow there John, even a couple of generations ago. I was in Shetland last week, the fishermen used to go to sea, rowing in an open boat for four days! In the Atlantic/ North Sea, imagine that now. To see old photos of the farmers on the Moor, or highlands, those men were made of granite for sure. They are not soft now, real tough men, but it is a little easier for them now.Methinks that yesteryears men were made of sterner stuff.
Thank you I`m of Irish/Scottish heritage ha haLooking at the name, he was obviously of good stock……English or Scottish.![]()
Oh what a shame! So you’re a mongrel…..like us all. I am English/Welsh, my wife is Scottish, so my grandkids are an even bigger mix. My wife has also a chunk of Nors heritage…..Ha ha.Thank you I`m of Irish/Scottish heritage ha ha
My wife is a Williamson, of Viking heritage, and being called a Pommy does not insult me whatsoever, in fact I believe it a compliment. Certainly better than what we call Aussies, but my Aussie mates have never been bothered.Well FMD one side of our coat of arms has Viking Longboats in a quarter.......geezuz we are nearly brothers except you have that Pommy Bastard mixed in haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..Hey Poms no offence, said in jest.
Have you got one?but my Aussie mates have never been bothered.
