Had a wander round a small wood yesterday that I have looked after for quite a few years now, fairly productive on Roe and Muntjac.
Not much around and then this fella popped up. Like a lot of folk on here I have shot a lot of deer over nearly 50 years and more than my fair share of Muntjac, my favourite deer. In all that time I have never shot a one eyed muntie, several other deer that were blind in one eye but always had the eye in place. I believe this fella was born like it as there is no obvious sign of injury, either new or old.
As I had never seen him before I don’t know if the poor antler growth on his left side is a one off or it always grew like that because of the eye
never will now. Apart from that he was in good nick and a good weight . For some reason the Muntjac in this wood always have a fair amount of ticks yet on my other permissions they have little or none. Great little deer, to hunt and eat, beggars belief that they get treated like vermin in a lot of places.
