Our project - Some may be interested

What a wonderful project. Its too bad I'm 6k miles away or I'd be happy to give you a few weekends. On a different property than I have now, and on a smaller scale, I did the same sort. Few things have matched the pride I felt in my accomplishments and It still brings a smile twenty five years later.

Start a thread Mountain Bug - be great to see your results or even some fails ! I have had some epic disasters too - things like getting cars stuck and the machine stuck and the like that i sent over to Schoffel to see if they wanted to do a sort of " just not my day " ! type post

Do you have any Grey partridge on your patch ?

Exactly the type of contribution to biodiversity that should be encouraged by the next administration — let those who wish to permit their biodiversity to wither on the vine do as they wish, but don’t stand in the way of those willing to make a significant, measurable benefit to the local natural heritage, and contribute positively to the rural socio-economic fabric of society.

Basically we need to encourage the proven approach, and find a sustainable balance which benefits the most vulnerable species; the management of predators of various ilk should be permitted in order to address the catastrophic impacts on our wildlife and habitats by political expediency.

If you’ve got skin in the game, it behoves us to press for a level playing field — one where prey and predator each have their place in terms of optimal management for biodiversity, and there will never be a better nor more urgently required need for pro-active efforts to be positively encouraged than when the next administration hopefully takes its place, and allows the country loving public and stakeholders to help reverse the ill-considered current crises in the countryside caused by too much protection for predators at the cost to all other preyed upon species.

I wholeheartedly agree but would it provide the productivity to feed the nation?
Given that we're covering so much of the good agricultural land in this country with solar panel, houses and trees?
Diverse plots like Jim's scattered around the country would be an absolute boon to wildlife.

Yes we do - we actually released a few circa 5 / 6 years ago and they have now started breeding - they have really spread well in the locality - as one farmer grows potatoes - one sunflowers - I wrote somewhere a few years ago that in the winter they were forming a super covey. BASC or Conor actually thought it may be the fact that they were released birds - he may be right as the offspring now do seem to be behaving more "normally"

I think projects like ours really would be more beneficial if employed by many of the charities and their seemingly endless drive to simply plant trees - so few then are managed

Many of the "reserves" round us sadly are just hubs for vermin - but slowly one or two are beginning to understand

We defo could not feed the nation - but how much of our food we produce is simply wasted ? There is defo room for both - and tbh the shoot here provides plenty of protein for my family and also many others - i wonder if a few thousand game birds - several deer - plenty of duck and pigeon being eaten equates to 20/30/40/50 cows ? Not sure tbh

I believe they have done a similar exercise with Graham Denny in Suffolk. It is great that people like yourselves get these spotlights on them as it helps everyone, you don't have to have 1,000s of acres to make a difference and we can all learn from what you have done.

Be interesting to read / see that
Please could you post when its available ?

I have googled the gent and found the work he has done reported by GWCT - brilliant !

I think good on Schoffel too for providing their resources and expertise and indeed platform -

And presume that polo shirt with the creases fresh out the packet

Cracking work and nice video - incredibly positive message for shooting there. I can even see my house on there in a couple of aerial shots :)
