Out last night.

I've had a few hours of air rifle therapy with the rats at the pig units. I did a stint on both units tonight. The home unit was difficult as they had Hestons laid out to guide the pigs on the lorries, some are going this week.
Managed similar numbers on both units, I'll go back soon with the nephew when they are empty, and give 'em a proper go.
Managed 138 total tonight with the FX Crown and JSB diablos.
Great bit of cheap fun, Mark was chuffed, I even had a bottle of Famous Grouse thrust into my hands as a thank you :)

Last few trips up to the farm I have been watching a distant fox on the next doors high ground, Last night I tracked him for three hours, it always used to fade away to pastures distant.
Last night I never lost sight of it ..... & it followed a track made by the sheep onto my manor.
Biggest chunkiest Dog I have laid low for many a month.IMG_3004.JPG

Managed to get out last night first dry night for couple of weeks ,dry but cold 1c , got set up and at 6.10pm seen one coming along the back field moved on my seat to get ready and it was off seen this one a few times now think its one I have missed in the past, but it all adds to the game, anyway after sitting a few hours hands cold feet starting to get cold I was watching a Roe deer then I seen it suddenly turn to the left and stand and sure enough theres a fox but the deer chases it back towards the wood lol eventually after a bit of a stand off the fox makes its way towards me and is sent a 55gn sleeping pill and its lights out at 9.10pm, never heard a fox last night and were not interested in the mating calls at all, and last year I was getting them in Oct to the mating calls , it was rabbit distress that brought this Vixen in.20251116_210749.webp

Looks like both ours are in fine winter coat.

Well the Colcichin has cleared the gout so after watching Smellydog shooting rabbits it prompted me to have a look.

I only did a couple of fields next to the quarry , a few rabbits about but in 1st field very IR shy.
2nd field different story and got a few.

- 1 c and frosty but lovely to be able to walk and really enjoyed the outing.

Mid November and younguns about.

Such a shame you never managed to get one more :scared:

Mixed performance last night - low ground the visibility was excellent but up higher the air was very thick with moisture and temperatures had dropped to 4 degrees so glad I had dressed accordingly…
First field 500 yards from Chez FB - a pair in amongst the ewes, one came in nicely to the FB minimarvel and paid dearly for its curiosity…

The second one decided to get out of Dodge but for some strange reason (the caller?) changed it’s mind and came in a treat….

No - I don’t know how I missed it either but not exactly morale boosting…
This still shows the point at which the rifle fired - the bright crescent at the foot is the initiation of the round…

Suffice to say no matter how many times I replay the video it still was a miss…
Anyhow, I gathered up the first fox and was walking down the lane towards the car but stopped for a last sweep with the Pulsar and bugger me there was a fox in the field three hundred yards away. Quick drop of the corpse and a gazelle-like (aye right) trot back up the lane and I was able to get set up and on it very quickly. Pinged it at 166 and settled for the shot….

Not only a clean miss but I repeated it with a rushed second! Never has ol FB’s crest been so fallen….
Muttering darkly all the way back to the jeep I was very tempted to pack up and go home but reasoned that it’s always best to have a clean miss rather than a bad hit sooooo two clean misses (actually three but move on…) must really be a good thing….
Undaunted I drove to the hill farm some 10 minutes away - noticeably colder and thick air was more of a challenge for the Zulus but still able to see three hundred plus. Long walk to top of the hill and set the minicaller off again - nada… It was getting really cold and the wind was up so I gave it 5 minutes more before I was heading home.
As often happens right on the point of packing I saw a signature way off which was heading my way. Quick peep through the Zulus confirmed it as a fox with malice aforethought. Sure enough it came to perhaps two hundred but for reasons unknown did a right hand turn and started to mosey uphill….
Pinged it at 188 and tried the usual cacophony to bring it to a halt, with some success so shot taken and a dead fox resulted.

Number 46 on this small hill farm this year.
Funny old night - at my first (!) miss I did notice a much louder bang than usual but examination of the case showed nothing untoward - I wonder did I maybe hit a strand of wire too? Also noted for the first time that on poor visibility nights the LRF ping lights the fox up very well - better than the IR - see 20:48:20 on the last clip.

Lol, muttering to one self is part and parcel to this game we twist ourselves up in Foxy.
The second one now sports a styled haircut for sure!! Your new name is now, The Barber. 😘

I’ll take that Smelly.
Was really starting to think the Zulus had gone off zero but I gathered the last one this a.m. - perfect heart shot at 186 so clearly something other than equipment failure…

This is the video I just unloaded from the Nocpix, it's at 310 yards & the scope is covered in condensation,

No wonder he carried it so far, big brute, when you see the muzzle point down I am looking at him with the Mergers after the reload.
If you listen carefully you can hear the strike (That unmistakeable BLOOP-THWACK).
