Seeing double!
This pair could have entered the Olympics Lamb Synchronised Lamb Rustling Event but patience lads, patience….
Very difficult drive on icy roads tonight to get to the farm which lost the first lamb last night and damned cold to be out on the hill. Anyhoo, brisk walk up the concrete lane in -2 rewarded me with nada, absolutely nada so down to the field where a fox took a newborn last night but was disturbed by the farmer just after a leg had been eaten (farmer’s foto from last night) then this morning it had gone - shocker!

So your hero set up the Icotech at 100 out and started the Lonely Lamb call; not much happening so tried filling the LL gaps with a hand squeak - nada….
It was soooo damned bright - finding a dark shadow was unreal but I tucked in against an old tree; set the sainted triple deuce up on B&Q’s finest, called again and scanned with the Pulsar. 20 minutes later decided to pack up as the inward trip was bad enough on unsalted roads so had a quick scan behind (and downwind) through the hedge - fox! 25 away and clearly aware of your hero’s presence - took off like a scalded cat! Bugger!
Bodily lifted the quads and rifle as one and legged it along the hedge hoping to pick up the fox somewhere in the shootable distance. 150 yards later in one of the two gaps in the hedge did a quick pan with the Pulsar and immediately spotted two strong heat signatures sitting up looking straight at me - from two fields away….
Usual kerfuffle ensued which modesty requires I gloss over and a quick butchers through the V2 Zulus revealed not one but two foxes in perfect harmony - sitting watching me. As the video shows they sat on long enough to let me deliberate in my best Father Ted mode whether to pick “near or far” but I took the easy option which dropped to the shot. It’s partner however decided to get out of Dodge at full speed so I had to content myself with the late great Meatloaf’s classic One Out of Two Ain’t Bad…..
