Out last night.

Its white over here and with the full moon and crunchy ground...the woodburner has won the day. I headed out at 4.30 yesterday morning with a view to seeing if any foxes were about then onto the fallow. No luck on the foxes and cant talk about deer on here

Happy new year to all fellow predator hunters! Since it’s cold and full moon and the jackals don’t come out until last quarter, I went for cold beers in Mexico. Last two were before Christmas, making the end count 38 from march. One stopped at about 150 meters and since my mate waited for it to come closer, had to stop it myself. The second one was more interesting. We were calling in a big field, with thick hedges all around. Jackals have the habit of doing circles around fields downwind before coming out, so I went to check what was going on over the hedge and here he was! Broadside shot at about 100. I love the 223, drops them on their shadow.

First night out for 2026 tonight, two sheep farmers close to home. First one starts lambing this month, the second in March. Had a fox at each, both dogs. The second farm had left a dead ewe out, and that proved a good draw for mr fox. Early start in the morning for the first service on my new motorbike, so was going to be an early finish however the night panned out; lucky for me tonight was a succesful foray and back home by 7.30pm.
The trusty CZ 527 .204 drops them both on the spot as per usual.

Came to bait site within 40mins of adding bait. 17 hmr.
Had the pleasure of my wife with me in the car waiting tonight. I say pleasure. Actually it was like having a heavy in lamb texel with me!! Grunting, snorting and farting, fidgiting and her bloody phone on!!!
I did want to wait for a second fox but then came the " I need a wee" request 🙄....

Anyway well done.

Another foray on the rats. Only 20 tonight. Very cold and rock hard underfoot.
Appears the fox has now diverted its attention to a neighbours hens so might have to go and sort it.
Huge copper/peach moon rose at 7.15pm

1st fox of 2026 last night.

- 4c crunchy underfoot , no wind and a bright moon.

Spied this old dog curled up on a grassy bank . Sneaked up on him to around 100 yds when he popped his head up and looked at me. I had to shoot off the sticks down a steep bank which isn't easy only able to see his head.

Thankfully struck him in the forehead , an old dog with chipped teeth and a battle scarred muzzle.
