Out last night.

Trail cam consistently picking up a fox near mine, 11am 4pm 8pm being the usual pattern, went down last night with some out of date burgers and put them 15ft in front of the camera, left the fox pro nearby and started calling, sat there till 9pm and it came in from my right and seen me and bolted, general pattern of its movements meant i thought it'd come in from the left. issue i have is the wood is steep, for me to get clear line of sight on the bait and be able to stand up, i can only be about 50 yards away which is why it seen me.

it returned at 4am for its burger

Headed out again last night but decided to stay around home. Left the house about 10.30 and had a nice gentle walk up the lane and onto my neighbours ground by which time it was a bit darker...considering the bright moon. Ste the caller up for a bit with no luck. Getting packed up and spotted a fox on another neighbours so shot her at about 130 yards.

Headed back onto ours and had a quick session with the caller with no luck. Saw 4 or 5 hedgehogs, a couple of hares and a barn owl so chuffed to see them.

I knew there were cubs about as I shot one earlier in the week ..but where I think they are is a bit of a pain to shoot due to being a really steep bank with lots of dead spots and most shots end up being closer then I like ... especially as it was like being out in the day as the moon was so bright.

I decided to tuck up in the shade of a tall hedge and set up on the sticks with the caller about 30 yards to my right. Caller on for about 30 seconds and I saw a heat signature in the thermal in some cover. Stopped the caller and over to the rifle to see a cub heading along in front of me at about 50 yards. Quick squeak stopped it and the .243 stopped it for good. Back home in bed just after 1.00 so not too bad

Nos 27 & 28

Well trail cam No 2 has pinged this morning with a fox at far end of the wood, (wood is about 20 acres), never seen it there before so now i have its time to re-locate the bait station and attempt again from this new location as the ground is a lot flatter, allows me to have my back the edge of the wood with clear sight through the wood for at least 80-100 yards

the mission continues

The biggest issue with a creature of habit ... they always seem to change it the one time you are there

We all know the spots they generally come out, cross fields etc...but there are always those other times where they surprise you. If it was too easy it would be boring :)👍

If you are baiting i would just bait - not call too mate

Two more fields cut near home. Saw one last night on them, but no safe shot presented.
Picked this vixen up tonight, settling down in some rough grass next to the cut fields, waiting her opportunity to take one of the few local rabbits which were feeding nearby. The old 222 and Drone Pro strike again!
