Out last night.

numbers are down this year for us ive now shot 28 this year but this time last year i was at 46
i dont know how many my mates shot we look after three farms which make up a game shoot
he does the two smaller ones and i do the bigger of the three
last year between the two of us we shot 243 foxes
Been helping a friend out on his ground with the foxes.
Ive had 11 in the last 3 weeks and he has had 4.

It wasn't helped by swathes of wheat straw and strong breeze so couldn't get correct angle on them. Anyway will take mate out next week with his .204 its his Grandfather's farm so he can wake him up at 1am!
As for fox numbers appears inexhaustible supply at present. 3 weeks ago saw 9 on couple hundred acres farmer doesn't wasnt them shot! Waiting for lots of grass and cereals to be cut will be busy then.

Aye - I love the developments in electronic sights and thermal but I do sorta hanker for those far-off simple days when I didn’t have to wrestle with the Pard’s many buttons in moments of incoming fox-induced panic but then I wouldn’t have some, but definitely not all, of the video memories to look back on.
Have to say I really did enjoy the daylight success though - they are amazing creatures and seeing them in full colour charging straight at you, then scarpering to cover but their innate curiosity bringing them out again is really something special - even after all these years and a lot of foxes.

I’m not at all good with electric thingies, after some instructions/mentoring from a very patient Clive ward, I can now use my T Ceptor on a number of rifles, no fuss just does the job admirably and I know now how easy it is to do, Not sure if I could use any fiddly scopes 🤯 I steer away from confusion big time

I use the pard 007 and for what it costs and what it is, it’s a tidy piece of kit, but it has no thrills and that suits me 100%

The 007 is a great bit of kit and I use mine for rabbiting on the .22 and .17 hmr.
The big difference with the 008 is that rabbits rarely take you by surprise as you are invariably stalking them and thus have the luxury of time to press whichever button(s) is required. Mr Fox however has a mildly endearing habit of appearing from the wrong direction, usually by way of a hidden trap door and whilst you are otherwise engaged thereby instilling immediate panic and furious/frantic button pushing - usually as the rifle and quad sticks are airborne or snagged in a mid-45 degree pirouette (though nowhere close to how graceful that word might suggest). As for the sodding buttons I have perfected pushing not even the right ones, never mind in the right order!
Obviously an age thing….

Do you have a shotgun FB?
Yep but never attracted to the idea of shotgunning foxes - dunno why but there it is.
Thinking about it I am hard pushed to recall an occasion where the fox escaped because I had the rifle out rather than the 12 bore. Besides, the shotgun only has one “button” to push rather than the Pard’s 5 or so - so it must be really boring.
On reflection - you do have a point…….

You may well be right there FB I like to be prepared with minimum of faffing about, up on my sticks, locate check ID, safety off bang

If I had to keep adjusting everything, it probably wouldn't be on the rifle the next night, I like to keep it simple, my mate has the I think an ATN with RF and bullet compensator which alters everything for a dob on shot which shows the chrono as well on his air rifle and to be honest he doesn't miss a shot, but the faffing about and the time he takes jesus If I'm with him I start saying " has it gone yet, has it died of old age yet, hang on its dropped another litter well leave that one now " he does shot a goodly amount but FMOB it kills me to be honest- but he loves it all and every bit

Out last night (Mrs FB still in London on furlough from me) at 10:45. Arrived at venue at 10:55, opened Jimny door and it started to rain - heavily, 40 minutes later the BBC’s “brief light shower” was still teeming down. Went home, dry but mildly scundered.
Bugger!

Ahah!
Old school was for me every time; served my apprenticeship carrying a car battery and old (Morris Minor) headlamp for an old fox shooter nearly 60 years ago so quite happy really to see the astonishing power that an 18650 battery can put out and at little or no weight nowadays.
Still happy to dabble with modern “lectrics” though, I do enjoy the Pards and the occasional video I manage to make whilst doing a passable impression of Liberace on the keyboard…

I don't go now if its due to rain i figure mr/mrs fox doesn't want to get wet and would rather sit up somewhere dry and wait for it to stop
i cant say how many ive not shot by taking this approach but ive stayed dry and warm thats for sure 😇

Cannot fault your logic!
That said I have shot a lot of wet foxes after rain - makes for a very obvious bullet strike too
Also noticed that rain alters the thermal heat signature - presumably rain cooling effect?

Get a break in the weather for 30 mins odds on you’ll get a shot, I’ve seen em curled up in the dry waiting to get out there in the thermal, trick is knowing whether it’s going to stop 🥺. Guess I’ll never learn I best get more drying rags ready 😵‍💫🤣🤣🤣

Out a couple more nights this coming week, weather doesn’t look good to be honest

I think it will be a sit in the cab job by
