Out last night.

That jogged a memory!, I recall being with IanF on one of his places for deer, a message arrived to him ... could he come and gralloch a Roe in a garden ... it transpired this was a regular service Ian provided, we arrived at said rose garden to find the deer not 10 yards from the firing point, the bedroom & a candlewick bedspread (I think it was), chap was fairly well on in years but managed to defend his garden regularly in this fashion.

Well I wasn't out last night but was the night before.
Went ratting Friday night then foxing.
Got into a wild goose chase with one and lost the trail.
Got home gone midnight knackered and agitated so only had four hours sleep 😴
So I went bed early last night but got up early to rekindle the wood burner, opened the door for firewood and there was my nemesis! I could hear him barking at the back of my neighbours farm!
Got myself together and shot out in the predawn dark.
Never saw a thing!!
After 2 hours sneaking about, nothing.

Still every cloud....found a pheasant or two roosting in a spinney. I'll have them at some point.
Bloody fox's....

Blimey I have to admire your determination/stamina/drive... to get up and hunt in the wee small hours has long past for me...
We had our first shoot yesterday, I was beating with the cocker all day and sometimes getting press-ganged into looking for a few birds at the end of a drive.. from 1st thing in the morning the nephew had been wanting to go foxing that night... no chance I said... I'll be gone as soon as I get in the warm and have some grub

Beating yesterday, couple of places where foxes were smelt 😡 so out tomorrow afternoon (4pm) then sit in the truck somewhere near where the scent was smelt, get the fox pro on vixen in heat sit there for a couple of hours & see what turns up. All my foxes are shot from my truck, works for me so why change something that works.

Out yesterday afternoon after a roe doe, saw a fox and couldn’t resist squeaking her in. Vixen vs 6.5cm, poleaxed it at 20 yards. Saw the doe 10 minutes later but no safe shoot. She walked up to within yards of me, before realising I was stood on the same ride, lovely to see them like that.

Been after this one for a fair while. I just happened to be scanning the thermal in the right direction and spotted him having a face-off with a feral cat before trotting across the skyline. Came in like a train to a few squeaks and dropped him at 56m once there was a safe backstop. Funny old feeling when you eventually catch up with one you’ve been after for a while - a worthy adversary I guess.

The longest I’ve had to chase one for was 9 weeks on and off maybe 3-4 times a week, see it loads of times but always with no safe shot on then one night I got into the fox box, set the gear up and the blighter walked out onto the track 20yds from me and stood sideways looking at me!
