Out last night.

Bugger. Missed one this morning with the 30-30. 80 yard shot. It was sleeping next to Mr stinky from yesterday!
No hair or blood and no idea where the bullet landed in all the leaf litter 😞
Seen four this morning and not a single deer.
Time to deploy the twipple I think.
If the TD is coming out it’s a dead fox walking, for sure…

It was freezing last night. As soon I'd got settled in, I saw one leaving when I scanned with the thermal 😖
About an hour, one came into the caller, but never really stopped moving. Turned the IR on to get ready.....I've never seen a fox run so fast, like a scolded cat!

I thought this isn't going well!
Nearing the golden hour for this place(10pm) the third for of the evening follows the same path as the second fox. Again, doesn't really commit and moves out of sire to the left. I change the caller from distress rabbit to vixen on heat and 5 minutes he comes back, but tries to get round the back of me. He made the mistake or sitting down at the back of a tractor looking for the caller.
Called it a night at 10.30pm 🥶

Back out first light this morning and 2 cwd on the deck 😀

Not a bad night.

Broke a love triangle up by getting a vixen to come to a rabbit squeal, miss her and then get her with a second shot at 200ish yards 🤦. Then a follower turns up and whollop him at a good hundred, I was half way pacing off the vixen and waited for her suiter to arrive.
Then whilst attending to them two another dog emerges from som woodland and is barking his head off. Bang flop!

Next I moved to high ground and could see my elusive deer in the distance.
Not hearing any more fox's I was about to leave when I spotted another fox 300 yds away on a hill side.
I got down to 200 and went for it. As you will see, she was IR savvy!

Forget to say this is seven taken off here this weekend!

Cracking night Bernard, you're in a purple patch! 💜

Not last night nor even this morning but I had a lovely afternoon in bright sunshine - total bag 1 crow but lots of holes of different sizes in paper targets - most of them were even where I was aiming…
Kinda lock, stock and three smoking barrels day. Quality day - loved it!
Even better tomorrow is Lady FB’s Crimbo present to us me - Titanic Distillery Premium Tour followed by a fine lunch in the Titanic Hotel - Yipppeee!

Out tonight, first permission I have been after the fox for a while, scanned with thermal and saw it at 100m going across field, thought game on....

Turned on IR just as it started snowing quite heavily and IR just reflected back off snow so no shot 🤦

Went onto 2nd permission and took this dog amongst the sheep

1 hour later shot another dog fox, he was a big lad

Cold but productive evening 👍

Out past couple of nights, two dogs first night, single dog then a pair then another dog tonight, another vixen calling from the edge of the wood, first time I’ve taken the time to watch and listen to the different calls. Watched the pair through the alpex about 400 m away on the open hill, then the dog came to small widgeon disc fox call, forget what you call it. Lots about going to be busy over next few months. Alpex and .cz 22 hornet a great combination.

That there Hatistani, is it the Luxarno?
Just brought one home to try. Only two shims and no cast off to get that lump of a stock away from my face.
With some engineering I've got it coming up nicely now. Eye present central over the rib all the time I try on an imaginary bird.
What choke are you running FB?

Yep - “Hatstand” it is and I lurve it!
As per another thread and in addition to the 28 inch multi-choke barrel, the purchase included a 26 inch m/c barrel which could not be taken out of the RFD because it is considered to be an additional firearm (yep - honest!) so I had to go through the full variation process to get it. It is now my default barrel for mixed rough/game shooting with true cylinder choke - the longer one carries 1/4 choke or on duck forays 3/4. I originally bought it as a cheap as chips (used - no shims or choke key) second semi auto for geese as it takes 3inch shells which it handles really well but it shoots so well it is my first choice when going out for pretty much anything.
Thus far I have used everything from 24gms up to 50(?) and it has performed very well - only downside is the long walks involved to lift the 3 inch cases! Hatsan has it’s critics but for the money it is a steal - thus far at least!
Be interested to know what surgery you performed?

I just needed a little bit of cast off for my fat round face, the comb is very thick. It's only got one shim to increase drop so I sanded one side thinner than the other. It's just added the bit of cast off I needed.
I've fitted the shorter barrel. Mines 25" and 27". Fitted the imp.cyl choke.
