Out last night.

Out last night, down to the bottom of the first field and spotted a red lamp being waved about! Not willing to get involved as I didn’t have any idea who they were I just watched for about 20 minutes. They seemed to lack any field craft and were just randomly walking and shining the lamp as far as I could see. Never saw them run the dogs. Came away after that as I didn’t like the thought of firing a shot when they were wandering about. Drove through the village but didn’t see any unusual vehicles. Not been a successful start so far!
Not good ... I would have done the same as you and left.

I watched someone lamping one of my permissions off the road once...i had a high powered torch with me so when they drove past me I shone the torch on the vehicle and followed it down the road....I think they got the point lol.

All I can think mate is how far had he traveled after you dropped vixen? You didn’t range again, maybe POA was off?
Just watched it again and he is travelling away at an angle so has covered some ground, hasn't he. It sounds windy on the audio. Maybe enough to push a bullet left of target?

This is as close as I can get to freezing the video on the shot and you've maybe gone up the left hand side?

That's brilliant.
I was rushing, wind was right to left. Very gusty.
Drop shouldn't be an issue Ben.
Bet I plucked hair again.
He must be getting well annoyed with me!!
Did you no notice his look back at the end of the video, pure hatred!
Sorry Charlie. May you live on and father many cubs.

to be honest it looks like a left hand side miss the way it ran right
what round/calibre where you using?
i think i would have been more engine room with my shot placement but that's just personal choice
we all miss once in a while, and anyone who says different. well you know the rest
well done and unlucky 👍

The wind was pushing me around.
He wasn't standing for long each time he stopped.

First farm tried calling for half hour vixen hand calls nothing. As jumped over the gate to get back to land rover. Spotted a vixen coming straight through hedge towards where caller had been. Bit of maneuvering and dropped just under 100 yards20260127_202549.webp
Then of to poultry unit. Spotted dog fox going through hedge. One squeak had him flying back in to be met by a 53gn vmax to the chest.
Short while after spotted the vixen in field opposite. Waited for her to present a shot. With a loud shout to stop her and the 223 did the rest. 20260127_212235.webp

Just the one tonight, dog fox... managed him before the rain really started coming down! Very blustery up on the tops!

Not much seen travelling this evening, can't blame them either!

Good man 🥰 🥰 🥰 💋

First dry evening for a while, had five rats at the first farm then an hour and a half pottering about looking for a fox seen in the morning, running off with some lamb guts left on the **** heap. No show sadly, possibly sleeping off the feast.
Looking forward to half a carcass as reward for my efforts, chops, leg and shoulder joints, vacuum packed ready for the freezer.

Ol' Dodge finally was finally not missed!
Not without help I hasten to add!
I called in my local shop and was handed an electronic caller. Sounded pretty good in the shop so tried it by this lads deceased spouse tonight and it worked on fox cub distress!
After two blasts with a pause he appeared.
With the familiar limp I knew it was him.

Next farm and just as I'm setting up to try the caller the thermal picks up a fox approaching.
Straight forward deal this one.

First and only dry evening this week - the farm has started lambing so wanted to get out on foxes.

Arrived in valley and saw a heat signatures at close to 300m - it was slowly working its way towards me - tried to squeak and it promptly buggered off! Fox fever started to kick in!

I was hopeful it would come down the other side of valley and sure enough it came trotting down.

It got to 120m and it didn’t get any further.

Dog fox - farmer was pleased 👍

Which caller did you get?
I bought the cheap one Foxyboy recommended, and it works a treat. Also have an old icotec but hardly ever use it. Mostly just walk and Stalk, can do a passable squeek un aided .

It's called flextone. Never heard of them until yesterday.
I do a good call unaided but I'll give this a whirl.

That was a nervous watch  Glad you got him - any signs of the injury causing the limp?

Like a few of you guys...dry night last night in Mid Wales. Headed to a couple of farms Ive looked after for years and as expected I didnt see anything as I'm pretty hard on the foxes as the farmer wont tolerate them having had losses over the years with the lambs.

I called in on a farm where I havent been for a while. They have a lot of sheep and combined with the wet ground its like a bog...still night and squelch squelch every foot step. Set the caller up and found a vantage point on a dry spot...couple of blasts with the vixen call...theres a fox in the middle of the neighbours field...dog fox call ... fox rotates head a few times to pick up on where the call is coming from...switch to the Gekkering recording I managed to download years ago and the fox comes sprinting in. I stopped the call and by the time I turned the scope on and got behind the rifle the fox was the right side of the fence. 58 grain bullet did its job with a bib shot about 110 yards away,

Vixen and No 5
