Over Under, New Turkish vs S/H Heritage Brands

Hello all,

Starting to the the bug for sporting clays and having watched multiple reviews I am somewhat conflicted on the next purchase.

I’d appreciate your inputs as to :

New Turkish - ATA Pro 12 / Webley & Scott pro comp12

Vs

Second hand - 686E / MK38

This purchase is probably going to be a 12-24month gun and if clays take off for me then I’ll be looking at the likes of a 688. Allowing this first clay gun to be handed to friends on days out rather than traded or sold.

I also have a 15inch measured LOP so any other suggestions warmly welcomed.

Thanks in advance

^^^^^^ This. Second hand I would go Beretta but Browning and Miroku very good, brands are excellent and the models are pretty bomb proof plus if you get an issue it will be an easy fix

Sounds unanimous!

Are certain brands oriented towards different physical statures?

I don’t tend to hear much of Benelli in the Over Under world, any reason as to why ?

Cheers

Benelli are only recent entrants in to O/U market they are more revered for their “ Inertia” system semi autos

I see, their offerings did appear minimal by comparison, that explains it!

I have their speed m2 and it’s been great. The 828u looks like an interesting proposition

I advise all my fellow club members who apply for SGC to buy a good second-hand Beretta or Browning - they are extremely reliable, easily repaired and will retain their value. My gunsmith friend had cause to strip an ATA and reckoned they weren't well made and spares were difficult to get now never mind in years to come

Rather have an old AYA side by side than a new Turk. I can only echo what everyone else here has said. There are tonnes of high quality second hand guns out there, and you’ll always be able to move on a Beretta or a Browning if you don’t click with it.

You make a great point in that a stable residual value provides some flexibility to chop and change 👌🏽

A not destroyed 682 gold e and you’re good as long as you plan shooting
The country store in shustoke have what seems to be a well sorted example, I’ll pop down to try it for size! Thanks for the suggestion

I'll play devil's advocate

Having had a kofs 20g
Tried to melt it on keepers days etc and just kept working
Hp steel
3" chambers
Easy available left hand ( applicable to me)

Now....
I've had it described to me as shotguns of certain type are objects of desire

If ypyr jot a shotgun man / person .and just want a tool for a job .... a brand new £600 quid item does same as a 2nd hand £1100 grade 1

Analogy could be cars etc ..

I see point if your Into sp.ethimg but if now and again and odd clays .....

Make your choice pay your cash

Oh and forget the 688 it doesn’t add anything to an older pro / semi pro gun, on the contrary it has less options to “tighten it up”. A well kept dt10 or mx8, 682/692, if you don’t shoot at extremely high levels, will have you covered. Spend the extra on a good stock.

wouldnt have a turkish gun given, s/h miroku all day, every day, Mk 38 or even a 3800, 👍
This ^^^^^ Turkish guns just don't have the build quality, things will be rattling and falling off them in no time.
I'm a big miroku fan, shot them all my life and have never bought a new one.
