OXFORDSHIRE: FIREARMS INCIDENT
INCIDENT: One person has been arrested following a firearms incident in Oxford.
Thames Valley Police received a report of an offender in possession of a firearm threatening members of staff at a bank on Cornmarket Street at approximately 10:00am this morning, Tuesday 28/11/2023.
Armed officers attended the scene and challenged the offender to safely resolve the incident.
A 40-year-old man from Oxfordshire was arrested on suspicion of an imitation firearm. He remains in custody.
Superintendent Matt Bullivant, said: “This was a concerning incident and our officers rapidly deployed to the scene which led to the incident being safely resolved.
“Thankfully no one was injured and I would like to praise staff for their handling of what must have been a very worrying incident.
“Incidents such as this are very rare in the Thames Valley, but we will always respond immediately in order to resolve them safely and protect members of the public.”
