PACKHAM SEEKS A TRUCE

Reading the paper this morning that Packham has called for a ‘truce’ with the game shooting industry. He goes on to say “ let’s stop fighting and start co-operating” and also wants to “ use each other’s knowledge” to benefit the countryside.

Well that’s all right then 😂😂

If that’s genuine then I welcome it. It's high time that conservationists on both sides of the fence started working together towards a shared goal of vibrant, healthy ecosystems instead of squabbling over the areas where we disagree.

Totally agree. All our wildlife is/will be under more and more pressure from habitat loss for house building and infrastructure. What we have left needs to protected by all conservation/shooting orgs.

I Would not trust Packham as far as i could throw him, his a snake and back stabbing ###. :old:

Is this due to this years raptor breeding success on the grouse moors and the poor success on the rspb moors 🤔

Always been the case in recent years, between the better habitat/food supply and less meddling/disturbance/monitoring.

Far more should be made of the breeding successes on grouse moors

It will be a case of friends close ....... But don't think our orgs are streetwise/nasty enough to get the benefit of enemies closer.
Can see him joining basc and getting voted on committee next year, sad fact he couldn't do any worse.

Vss is right in an ideal world conservationists and shooters would work together, but unfortunately now most wildlife/conservation charities are far too political and care more about money/members or politics than wot there meant to conserve originally.
Just gone far too far now, doubt will ever swing back to where it should be with social media outrage etc

Chris Packham has his beliefs and one of those is that field sports in all it's forms is bad. He suffers from Asberger Syndrome. Sufferers have much less empathy than normal and are very set in their ways, believing in things whatever evidence is produced to the contrary and being totally unwavering in those beliefs.

Consequently, it's a normal reaction to suspect that this overture towards game shooting is to further his beliefs. I really hope I'm wrong and perhaps this change of tack with him is a genuine overture to bring about harmony to an industry that actually (with limited exceptions) benefits most flora and fauna. But, despite being a glass half full sort of guy, I am very doubtful. He would really have to go some to change my mind.

It also occurs to me that working together with the game shooting industry can benefit Mr Packham, but I fail to see an advantage to that industry. Maybe he will advertise Berettas or something. I think not.

Perhaps this is the work of internal politics at RSPB.
The best way to deal with this (in my opinion) is go direct to RSPB as said in my other post on this. 14% ONLY of RSPB members have a problem with shooting - CP may be feeling the heat at 'home'.
BASC et all, as a united group, need to produce a video of his worst excesses and then say to RSPB - "all we ever wanted was a reasonable dialogue and we will work with RSPB on conservation issues", but FIRST RSPB drops any tie to CP, Avery or the other idiot. Make their sidelining a pre-requisite of greater cooperation and go for it !

True words there.
The anti's have gone way OTT in the past few years ! you have to be on guard even when standing on a peg let alone sitting up a seat on private land ? . Even the thought of letting him / them in close makes you feel like you have to go on the defensive ! , it just rings bells of zero trust both ways or its just not another plan or decoy ?
