Pard 007 reviews , crow flighting

Crow killer, what nightforce scope are you using with the pard ? I have three rifles with NF benchrest scopes on 8-32*56 and 3.5-15*56, as others have said sometimes the coating on the scopes gives issues with add-ons. Has it worked all ok with the nightforce before, was it just the conditions on the one occasion ?
i have been thinking of getting a pard for ages
ive got an ATN 2 on the .17hmr anybody got comment on how the pard image compares to the ATN ?

So I am lead to believe it’s the top end scopes that are no good for these units, it’s something to do with the lense coating, I’ve been out tonight with one on a 24 mag hawke scope , using an armasight ir and can clearly see rabbits at 600m (SIX HUNDRED)
So I recon it’s a case of downgrading your scope and upgrading the ir
Do you have a link for the IR

I have a Pard 007 on my 17HMR, after some issues when first bought it, I found you need a good IR lamp, they don,t like high end scopes, so I use a Hawke on mine with no issues at all. The on board I.R. is o.k. but an IR add-on lamp from Clive Ward is far better. One problem I have is my permission adjoins a nature reserve, with large areas of wetlands. On nights where the wetlands give off water vapour, the Pard suffers, doesn't like moisture in the air and range is then limited down somewhat, in my case about 60-80 metres then. I move away from the wetlands and unit is good to go again. On board I.R. is usable but a good add-on is better, Clive has several on offer that work well. Use my pard several nights a week, great piece of kit would not want to be without it now. deerwarden

Think that the problem with the Nightforce scopes is that they don’t focus in close enough. They work but nowhere near as well as something cheaper.
I’ve a hawke on my .22 and it ****es all over the Nightforce with the Pard.

Not teaching anyone to suck eggs but the onboard IR is focusable which makes a hell of a difference, just pull on the IR lense, it is not as good as an external IR but focussed tight is usable out to 100

Hi its a night force bench rest, 8x32x56, ive had 2 foxes using pard on it, a few weeks earlier but that was on a night with a bit of moonlight, ive not been out since the night I couldn't see the fox.

Ive shot five more Foxes now using my pard, what a great device it is, I had been aiming too high, no wonder I couldn't find them , now can see very clearly, I would strongly recommend a pard007, good value only about £280 on ebay. Had one tonight coming onto bait, in pouring rain. I sit inside the shed, bait out only about 65 meters away, can see them walking about at 800 meters with the hand held thermal imager.

Be very careful if tempted to buy any Pard unit from EBay as there are units being offered that are only suitable for other markets i.e. menus only in Chinese etc.and zero warranty available. There have been reports of this before over on NVForumUK. For peace of mind pay a bit more and order from a known U.K. supplier such as Blackwood Outdoors, Custom Rifle Scopes, Night Vision Store, etc. You can also buy he excellent external VCSEL laser IR torches from them - Sirius XTL, Solaris SRX, and Black Sun Dark Engine.

With the 007 that I have I found the onboard ir to be perfectly usable after taking the time to focus the beam by extending the lens outwards, on a hawke scope a 200yd shot is no problem, I tried pbir, black sun, ruby sun, dereelight, pulsar and an armasight ir’s, by far the best was the armasight, pin sharp on rabbits at 600yds.
I then took a different tack for when sat up over a bait station, I picked up
One of these:-

Not cheap but Jesus what a bit of kit, I have it running off a tracer lithium battery, Also use it with my N355 on the deuce and use the pard as a spotter, if you digital nv boys haven’t tried one of these you really need to.
Next step for me is to rig up a camera linked with this ir flood to a screen in the motor so we can drive round the farm without lights

Did you try any of the new generation VCSEL lasers?

They pump out way more IR than LED based torches and the sensors on the Pards and similar need them to give a good image. The onboard IR unit on the Pard is a VCSEL and that’s the reason it has such a good range for the tiny lens.

Any of the VCSEL torch based illuminators, such as the Sirius XTL, Solaris SRX, and Black Sun Dark Engine, will enable viewing out to 500m with the Pard 007 and a suitable day scope.

The Bosch Aegis looks like a cracking unit to mount as a rooftop spotter, albeit pricey, but the rifle mounted VCSEL illuminators will be a big advance on LED (and at a very reasonable cost. ;) ).

Some videos from Bruce and Russ on the subject including comparison tests and the need for some safe handling because of the high outputs.

Once I’d found the quality of picture available with the armasight I stopped looking, it is really HD quality, I was lucky with the aegis, it came as part of a complete set up along with a shed load of reloading gear when I recently bought a hornet, the unit is so good I think because it is a commercial grade unit, I’ve been using it to good effect from a foxbox I have at an egg farm, but as you say they’re bloody pricey and that is why you don’t see too many about

 Well, well, well....what goes around comes around........this brings us almost full circle to when these were the ultimate way back in 2005/2006.... Tony at AMT Electronics was doing re-furbished units in both 850 and 940. Darren/lordlardoffarms what built the forerunner of the Wardy700/800 add-ons and the renowned foxing legend Patrick Hook/PaddySP were using them amongst others...... I've got some tucked away in a box but unfortunately never got round to mounting them on the vehicle. Had a look for AMT earlier but long defunct by the look of the website name being available. I know that Muskett has got the bigger version of the lamp.....gives you a sun tan as well if you stand in front of it and he was using it at one of the NV meets organised by Theo/Thesmi....... awesome light from that and very clean.

:thumb: (But the VCSEL lasers are bloody good!)

I've got an owners manual I could scan if anyone wants a copy......

Cheers

Why were they refer-bing them?
Couldn’t they get new units?
The one I got 6-7 weeks ago was still boxed and unused.

I expect he had picked up used units from a factory clearance or some such and was reconditioning them for re-sale.... they came complete with new 24v transformers and brackets, the only obvious thing to say they’d been apart was the evidence of glue around the join...... certainly cheaper than buying new from our point of view, somewhere around the £70 mark iirc.

Crikey, I dunno..... been years since I had one fired up and it would have been with a Watec camera. I do remember that Muskett‘s big job did throw a lot of very clean light....it was about 4 times as big as the ones were talking about......I think they used the osram dragon series of leds? Maybe they subsequently used the AS series, that would’ve been the next step up.

Just found a picture of the board and theres an array of 18 leds with the degree of angle lenses over the top of them. They were originally manufactured under the Derwent branding.

I can’t remember what the spread angle was of the ones I bought was.... I’d have probably gone for narrow to get a longer throw.

Would be worth giving Muskett a nudge towards this thread.... I’m sure he could add loads of info/background. I’ll go across to the bbs and pm him.(Done)

Put a Solaris srx laser on mine totally different level ,easily doubled the range if not further and a far clearer image imho .The inbuilt is ok but the external is a total game changer
Have a Solaris srx on mine as well, well worth the money, a really smooth change from spot to full beam, great piece of kit, all my homemade efforts have been binned now deerwarden
