Pard ds recall

Scott county are stating, please do not use the unit and return it immediately!! Sounds like they’re doing a recall to me although there not getting mine just yet and I’ll be using it tonight
As Bruce was telling everyone on AGF yesterday to “crack on” and “nothing to see here” as he has with all the other issues, i thought id call SGC to see what they say about the matter because if all the talk of a firmware update to reduce the power of the IR is true, it potentially has implications for the image quality using the inbuilt IR.
This is what they told me.

They have confirmed that the scopes aren’t being recalled but there is an issue with the IR, they didnt say what it was but they say a firmware update has been created to sort it and its in for testing at the moment, once its passed the test it will be rolled out as an update for any existing users and any subsequent scopes being sold will have the new firmare by default.
After the phone call to SGC yesterday an update appeared online to reduce the IR output and improve the BC so the guy i spoke to was correct but a little out on his timings.

Having seen for myself what tinkering with the power levels on the older 008 updates can do id say its too early to say whats going to happen performance wise, until its rolled out and everyone is happy its not a case of nothing to see here.

I don’t quite get this - a recall because “if you leave the IR switched on pointing at something flammable it could start a fire”? Try leaving any one of your super bright torches switched on and nose down on anything flammable including the back seat of a landrover and see how long it takes. Soooo maybe we should recall all torches?
Now call me old-fashioned but in this current climate where common sense appears to be in very short supply may I offer a piece of free advice?
(Deep breath).
YOU confirm that said IR/Pard/Pulsar/Torch et al is turned off before you put it away in your bag/vehicle and gosh (steady lads!) maybe even remove the battery before you put said illuminating device away in your cave! If you look really carefully there is a little device on the top or side - this is called an “on/off switch”. “On” = bright and hot whilst “Off” = dark and cold (Jasus - is that right Ted?).
Next week’s exciting instalment will cover unloading your gun before you put it in your car and/or cabinet and subtitles will be available for the hard of thinking…..
The final thrilling instalment will explain how to tell whether cows are near or……..

Bruce dose no his stuff regarding nv-thermal and I’m happy to take his advice, but I’m not worried about the warraty,if mine packs up working that’s my fault an ill just get another or put one of my other 3 nv on .
some will only have the one nv and saved hard to get it,then they received the email from sc to not use and return it,dosnt matter what sgc say scott country want them back or do they just crack on 🤔

Yes, you have highlighted the problem, the UK importer says the scope isn’t being recalled, another shop says don’t use and return and other people saying its no big deal crack on!
Who knows??

Scott Country are not the importer and distributor of PARD products in the UK
Sportsman Gun Centre are the sole importer and distributor of PARD products in the UK and as such are responsible for all warranty work and product support.
According to PelletPinger, SGC have said that the product is not going to be recalled.
If you bought a DS35 from Scott Country and return it to them (at who's cost ?), what are they going to do with it?
There is a firmware update on the Blackwood Outdoors website (I can't find one anywhere else) but SGC are not saying that failing to install the update will void the warranty
I said before that this is no big deal, and to just crack on and to use your DS35 as you have already been doing
That's still my opinion
This a reply on Facebook from PARD after being asked about the IR by someone (I don't know who)

I contacted Mr. Chen Fujun (Fortune) at Pard-Tech, China about the possibility of problems with the IR on their products.
This is his reply from Pard China concerning the recent email about the IR problems especially the DS35
Dear sir
The attachment is our test report in the United States. There is no problem with the IR of PARD related products.
In addition, our solution is to update the software to ensure that within 5 minutes, the IR will not have any burning marks on the object at close range, please rest assured to use.
Best regards
Regarding the IR light flammability issue, we arranged several experiments in US office and would like to share our findings with you
CONTROL
1. Machines with IR light - we have TL5 / DS35 / NV007V / NV007S / NV008S
2. We switched on all the IR light and set at the lightest level
3. All experiments are conducted under room temperature
EXPERIMENT 1
• We put all machines in front of a black nylon tape, which was picked from SA packing.
• All machines IR were placed in front of the black nylon tape for 10 minutes at distance of 3" , 2" and 1" and recorded the result
TL5 850
DS 35
NV007V
NV007S
NV008S
Distance 3"/7.6cm
Time 25min
Test Results slightly melted
Distance 2"/5cm
Time 10min
Test Results Burned a hole after 1.5 min
Distance 1"/2.5cm
Time 10min
Test Results Burned a hole after 30s

EXPERIMENT 2
• We keep all machines with power and IR on, pretended users forgot to switch off the machines and put back to boxes/bags.
• Keep the machines in the packing for 30 minutes.
RESULT - EXPERIMENT 2
• DS35 and NV008S burnt the package a small hole after 30 minutes but without fire burnt. Other machines have no burnt effect in package
EXPERIENCE 3
• We keep all machines with power and IR on, pretended users forgot to switch off the machines and put into a cotton cloth bag
• Keep the machines in the cotton bag for 30 minutes
RESULT - EXPERIMENT 3
• No burnt found. All machines IR units a little hot but cannot induce a burnt effect or fire.
Conculsion
• IR can burn a non-penetration object in close distance, like plastic bag, the nylon tape from SA
• After 10 seconds close and stable irradiate, objects will be burnt
• Experiment concluded an actual fire is not likely induced by IR light, but it's flammability with no doubt
Suggestion
We suggest all machines with IR light, should have a small warning sticker put at the IR units, warning users cannot put any objects within 5cm in front of the IR light.
Best regards

Note that the DS35 was no worse or better than the 007V, 007S and 008S - and no-one is getting excited about them

Cheers

Bruce
