Peregrine Monolithic Factory Ammo launch

Nothing to do with the groups, but with the amount of stickers you are using, why not just get a new sheet of paper
Its an aluminium target covered in paper
Just slap another sticker over the holes and away you go
Mostly held together by stickers now!
Thats the back!

Just out of interest, is it possible to see some groups shot (in Scotland) with this bullet? Thanks.

Ed gave me half a dozen to try in my 243 Heym SR20 that is 30 years old. A quick test to check zero - right is my normal 100gn RWS, on left 2 shots with the Peregrine 100gn. Have used one on a Sika Buck. Bullet in shoulder at 200 odd yards. It made twenty yards with good blood trail. Clean carcass.

Havent you heard about the paper shortage 🤔🤣

I think I will vouch for these bullets as I have been running them in my 6.5 for the last few months and have to say I like them a lot

Any hints as to when these cartridges, 308 specifically, might be more readily available to purchase from retailers locally please? - specifically in Hampshire/Surrey/Sussex/Wiltshire/Berkshire area.

Alternatively would you be able to provide the factory seating depth, powder type & weight with the online purchase of bullets for reloading please?

Thanks.

I dont think much of the bunny will be edible after being hit by one of these even a head shot would be iffy. Normal hornet rounds are bad enough
They are actually not to bad. I’ve shot a few rabbits and hares with them and they hold together much better than a lead equivalent. Don’t get me wrong. Hit the front should of the rabbit and it’s minced but head shots left clean carcasses.
Crows and magpies are a different story. They go puff when hit with this round.
Great on foxes to.

Shame they don’t make them for the 22 Hornet. It’d be good to have a factory offering that was decent! It would likely turn more people onto it and demonstrate the potential.

Did some expansion testing today.
Mainly to recover a clean bullet for demonstration purposes. (See you at the Stalking Show next weekend!)

Not the most conclusive test as anything will expand fired into water.

Six 5l containers full of water.
100m
308 136gr Peregrine VLR4 at 2900fps

Impressive shattering of some of the bottles.
Complete pass through with the bullet lodging itself into the pallet behind.

Even managed to find the brass plunger that starts the expansion!

The whole point about non lead ammo for deer manage to is to maximise weight retention to minimise carcase contamination.
The fact the primary choice for bullets is also a poison is an additional concern.
But any metal in the carcase is deemed a negative by the AGHEs and their end retail clients

135.9gr retained weight (from 136gr - 99.93%)
Expansion to just under double calibre diameter.
Impressive penetration through a much wider and more dense material than expected.

Monolithics that retain their original mass will always penetrate and pass through faster than a bullet that sheds up to 60% of its mass and slows down to as little as 50% of muzzle velocity.

The higher pass through velocity is and advantage not a negative.
The cavitation “bubble” both in front and behind the bullet is larger and longer with a higher velocity pass through.
That bubble observed in gelatine blocks is the main cause of the huge “shock wave” that incapacitate and kill quicker than a slower expanding bullet relying on wound tract bleed out.

Hornady videos show the profile of the monolithic bubble vs an SST
Note the SST tapering off very quickly as is slows down.
We mistakenly assume all bullets have to “dump energy” in to the animal.
The GMX video shows a much larger bubble in the second half of the gel block as it maintains its velocity

Put in the right place that bubble has enough velocity and energy to shatter the less muscular organs like the lungs and liver without the need for secondary wound channels from frangible bullet parts

We can do a 22 hornet
Actually easier than the 17h as brass is much more available
Would likely be the new bullet designed for the purpose
35-40gr in a VRG3 or VLR4 would work well

??

I'll buy some more Fox Classic Hunter 7mm-08 (130grain), as well as some Peregrine in same calibre, if you have them at the Stalking Show.

Thanks to @Edinburgh Rifles help have developed my own load for 223 Rem 700. Very happy. Full details at

Ed, can you get the 100gr 257 cal VRG3 that's on Peregrines website?

Wondering if the wider meplat of the VRG3 would give better expansion at ~3000 fps MV than the VLR4

Hope to have them going to dealers in the next few weeks
We will do the same as we do for Fox and publish all factory load on our site

Still collating factory load data and some are already at proof
