Pet / Captive Roe deer.

Anyone know of any ?

A friend of mine has one in his stables. Found as a newborn straight out the mother who had been chased off.
No one was interested in taking it (welfare groups etc) so he kept it and has it as a pet.

Its 14 yrs old !! I was watching her yesterday and was astonished at how young she looks, like a 4 yr old. He does her feet with sheep clippers but no one has ever been able to get a look at her teeth. She's on a softer diet then in the wild so I assume they are fine and she is in amazing condition.
Hasn't needed a vet visit in that whole time.
He puts a harness on her and walks her about the fields :) as do some of the girls with horses.

Only one I know off.

I know of a guy that’s got tame muntjac but never seen them, he says his pets but I’m not sure if they are fenced in

It has been done. Has anyone heard of Henry? He was up in the midlands. and yes, ok for a while, but like all bucks, at the wrong time of year, he wanted to show off his dominance, so, it didnt end well. I do have photos somewhere.
much easier with a doe.

A Hungarian outfitter I used to go hunting with had one at one stage. The doe was dead and they took it home and nursed it. Put it in a pen. It grew up to be a right little barsteward, an aggressive fecker.

I’m sure in one of Priors books he recounted about a pet roe buck losing its fawn buttons in his leg! Absolute dynamite in the rut apparently.

Leigh McNally of Torridon had a pet hind that lived to a ripe old age. Plenty food and not being out in the elements must do wonders for their heath.

I have an acquaintance with pet munties, but his buck is a little territorial.
I have photos somewhere, pre war of my families pet roe buck and vulture together.

Muntjac does seem to tame quite readily, a friend had a captive one (a rescue) which would beg for treats like a dog.
She was hooked on trail mix and would come running over to you if you had any of that or a few cashew nuts in your pocket - her absolute favourite were sweet chestnuts.
Very friendly wee thing.

Another friend had a small holding on the outskirts of Oxford
He had a "pet" Roe doe for a few years
It wasn't captive but would pop in for a visit most days, eat food from your hand, wanted its neck scratched and all that tame/pet stuff.
It regularly sunned itself and/or chewed the cud in his garden with the family dog snoozing alongside it

Pavel Scherer, author of “Roe Deer and Their Antlers” has had several captive roe deer, and bred from them. In his book he shows the antler development from the same buck over its lifetime. His photo on his Facebook page shows him cuddling a roe buck.

How easy was it to house train? Or is the carpet brand new?
She's house trained, sometimes she will poo if she gets scared by fast movement, but not very often, she has an area in the garden she uses as a toilet, They are very clean and don't smell, But if anyone is thinking of keeping one Don't, absolute pain in the arse to keep, eats around 2.5 kilo of fruit and veg per day, and cost me a fortune ,

Had a pet sika stag until he wrecked his incisors trying to get through a deer fence during a rut. Would wander into the lodge and sook guests drams. Never any form of aggression to anyone. Re hygiene in the house, pellets are easy if you have a Henry 😂😂
