In very simple terms following a lengthy interview process of suitable qualified candidates, however appointments need Home Office approval.

No statutory requirement under the firearms act for any FLD personnel to have any relevant qualifications and experience, this needs to change.

Done, my opinion is its the apathy in the whole field sports world that will be the demise of everything we do. Once they've dealt with the shooting community it'll be angling. We need to stick together not fight amongst ourselves.

One thing that strikes me, as my renewal date comes due is this: the current system is unnecessarily an administrative pain in the backside. That's probably true for us and the police. Maybe we should be campaigning for a streamlined and rational certification system that makes life easier for us all.

Let us wait and see. But it will be mentioned at some point by someone in the Home Office. Just as so called "bump stocks" are unknown here. But got publicity when used in a gun multiple shooting in Las Vegas. And were then prohibited in 2019 by the Tory Government...even though any types self loading centrefire rifle the were intended to be could have been used with have been prohibited since 1988.
