Finally managed to make a tool to remove the locking ring in the lens to fit a 2.5 doubler to a photon 6.5x50 XT that i bought from an SD member, started to try different IR's to see which one gives the best picture, tried the NM400, NM800 X-SERCHER and an armasight XLR850 which so far gives the best sight picture and is very usable but just wondering what IR's you guys are using?

Another Solaris SRX user here....rotary dimmer gives ultimate adjustability along with flood/spot. Crystal with a Ward 800L.

Thanks for the info lads, think I’ll give one of the ruby IR’s a try soon as I can get hold of one, thoughts on what ruby I should get ?

My XT came in a bundle with a Deben F900 from Scott Country. It has a clever slide switch dimmer which is operated by a magnet through the case wall so no compromise of the waterproofing. It also comes with a gimble mount for easy alignment.

I did buy the adaptor ring for camera lenses, but haven't used it yet. What tool did you devise? Any pictures?

I used an old bolster chisel, ground the blade to a snug fit into the locking ring leaving two tabs to fit onto the key ways but BE SURE THE OUT SIDE OF THE TOOL IS NARROWER THAN THE INTERNAL THREAD ON THE LENS otherwise when you turn the tool it will burr the threads and the ring will lock up , I have also heard that a good engineers steel rule makes a good tool because of the quality of the steel ?

I find the doubled photon works well enough with the t20 ruby..enough IR to shoot out to 300m not too much at 70m and doesn't lag trying to process too much light. I have it set on a figure 8 clamp and fills the screen nicely
