Picked up my Shultz Victory yesterday!

I picked up my Shultz and Larsen Victory in 308 yesterday and I am very pleased to say the least. Steve and Shane from Ivythorne were extremely helpful and made the whole process a delight. They set it up for me and fitted the my scope and Steve helped me to sight it in on their range.

My new set up is now a Victory grade 2 in 308, with a DPT mod and S and L scope rings. The Grade 2 stock has enough figure to make it nice but not too nice to be scared to get it scratched.

Out of the box and on a blustery windy range, I was immediately getting .5 to .75 inch groupings so on a still day the groups should be even better. That said everyone of my test shots would have easily been in the kill zone of a deer so very impressive. It will be a couple more days at the range to really get used to it then going out for a few stalks :D.

I cannot rthank and recommend Ivythorne Sporting and Steve and Shane enough for making it all so easy.

The SD member (sorry cannot remember your name) picking up a Grade 4 S and L later this week will be getting a stunning rifle!

Photos will follow in due course. Regards SBM

I've bought two Schultz and Larsen's from Steve, a Classic DL in 30-06 and a Victory in 7x57. Both excellent rifles, and the standard of service at Ivythorn is second to none.

Moonraker what ammunition are you using in your 7x57? That will be my next barrel for my S&L Classic Traveller. I already have the slots available.

Pleased you like it they are great rifles for the money and very pretty indeed. I’m definitely won over by them. I liked my tikka and was going to get a Sako until I saw and handled them.

RWS 123gn cone points, which are now discontinued but Steve Beaty managed to track some down for me. It seems to prefer lighter bullets due to the twist rate.

Thank you. I’m not sure when I’ll purchase the barrel but it’s good to know where to start with ammunition.

It's a grade 5 I'm picking up & now I'm worried about using it. :D

Odders

My humble apologies a, Grade 5 will be even more stunning, please share the photos I would love to see just how good it is. The accuracy of the Victory is brilliant. I only tried one brand of ammunition - Winchester 150grn - so it might be even better with a different brand but I won't bother trying as I am happy with what I tried Any way all my shots were deer dead so I am very happy as I am sure you will be. Regards SBM

No need to apologise matey.
I've some Norma, Lapua & Winchester factory loads to try in mine, plus a first run of handloads with a couple of different bullets.
Roll on Thursday (& hopefully I'll get out to shoot it on Friday...).

Well if you had been able to make it here and brought it with you it would have returned home somewhat 'second hand'

I'd 've been bringing the .270 laminate & stainless & not giving a flip...

Apologies to the OP for posting a pic of a Ruger. :D

Excellent choice of rifle! :D I have one myself, also in .308, and its a lovely bit of kit. I also bought mine from Steve at Ivythorn and I agree wholeheartedly about the standard of service there - TBH I would always quite happily drive out to Somerset to make any gun purchase as its always a delight to stop by!

Mine liked the Winchester factory ammo as well, and if you cant get that locally then Federal Power Shok in 150gn seems to shoot to the same POI and group size.

I've just ordered another Victory from Steve yesterday with two barrels this time, one in .25-06 and one in .300WM, and I'll be heading up next month to pick it up. Very much looking forward to it I must say! :)

I would recommend S&L and Ivythorn all day long - Excellent rifles from an excellent RFD who has probably forgotten more than a lot of us will ever know about firearms.

Good hunting to you with your new rifle!

Phone call from Hannah at McAvoy's so I did the 200 mile round trip & after a little lapping on the scope rings...

It's fecking gorgeous!

The trigger's feels just right; I'm guessing between 2½ & 3lbs & the bolt us silky smooth & glides in & out like it's on ice.
I'll probably take it out & zero it on Monday.
