Not exactly stalking related I know
just after advice on the best vinegar to use for pickled eggs and beet root
the wife said some pickled eggs we bought recently were in a brown type
vinegar rather than a white pickling vinegar
so thought I'd ask on good old Sd for the more experienced members advice
yours thoughts / suggestions on what works for you will be most welcome
regards pete

Always pickle in hot white vinegar then add the spices to taste, eggs will colour in malt vinegar which is purely asthetic.

Pete see Jamie over Frome Market on the Veg stall he will have some or will get you some, either white or brewed and if you like it spicy then pop down toWalcot st. in bath to the 'Harvest' shop they do big jars that you just scoop out as much as you want.

I use sarsons pickling vinegar brown or white what evers in the cupboard

And don't just pickle your beets mate we have them roasted too and make beet houmus with mint, nom nom nom!!

Something like this whizzed together in a processor with warm pitta bread

Ingredients:

  • 2 large whole beetroots roasted or boiled
  • Small handful of fresh garden mint
  • 1 clove garlic - We cheat and use lazy garlic in a jar
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely ground sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin - Not essential

  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 2 tablespoons real egg mayonnaise OR plain (unsweetened) yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
