Hello, Novice here. All advice welcome

Ah, but I have!
Only a limited selection I grant you (8 - 10 different calibres at one time or another), but I don't ever comment on calibres I haven't tried.
If a .270 was good enough for Jack Charlton then good enough for me. :tiphat:
These days the "Miss More" is popular

Yeah, doing the DSC1 we had to shoot off quad sticks and they made an incredibly stable platform. They had the viper sticks which were great but don’t fancy dropping 300 quid on sticks just yet, so I’ll definitely have a look at the monkey spanker sticks (awesome name… guess stalking is quite a solitary pastime 🤭)
@takbok Rory makes a diy kit using garden canes sticks from Toolstation

He makes 2 front yoke types

Old ones on the right

I considered a Creedmoor, but when I asked if it came with a cleaning kit the seller just gave me directions to the nearest Boots chemist.
I found that a bit off putting, to be honest!

🤣🤣🤣
To be fair Tim that may have had nothing to do with the rifle choice :)

Often you see multi buy deals with hair bands, conditioner and leather pants 😅😅

so you had a 270 and considered getting a creedmoor , i rest my case that you know it's better but couldn't bear the false peer pressure pedalled by luddites........

Cool, Im in Navestock as is my perm, large herds of fallow and muntjac occasionally seen. Im a newbue too last seasons was my 1st.
I used to fish Lady Lake in the late 70's/80's and you could hear crashing in the background on a still night waiting for a run on the rod.

I considered quite a few options  before settling on the .270
The only serious contender was the 30-06
It was threads like this that swayed me in favour of the .270: Anything that can arouse so much passion - both for and against - must have something going for it, I figured. Rightly.

Same with myself Tim, the grass is never greener on the other side of the hill so why buy a Miss More lol

Everyone always talks about what rifles, binos, sticks, bags, thermals, knives to buy but no one ever mentions the one item that's always overlooked and which, when poorly chosen, can lead to misery.
This is the best one to buy in my humble opinion, I'm not the most experienced stalker of deer by a long chalk, but I do have hours of grappling with crappy tools and wish to spare you a similar problem.

Buy two. You will inevitably lose one. Even if it is bright orange.

Again, no need to spend hundreds. These are excellent and better than the garden cane type: 4Stable Sticks

Ah nice, I’m just down the road… Blackmore. I’ve seen a load of munties over this way. Have you managed to get any local permissions? Picked up a new cabinet from ISS in Mount Nessing today and was told that it’s nigh on impossible to get a permission despite the hundreds and hundreds of fallow.

Although quite why anyone would want to saw through the pelvis is beyond me!

Quite, easy to take a haunch off just run a knife around pop the hip joint, I do them on the gambrel (with mj the shin goes in the bin) take one leg off and with big deer gravity is you best helper.
I was thinking more in terms of in the field.
Less you cut in the field the better.
(I don't cut the chest in the field either).
