Pike fishing in Loch Awe

I have some stalking near Loch Awe and I would like to try pike fishing there. It's a very large loch so would appreciate some advice on areas to fish, preferably with parking close by as the rifle will be in the truck.
Any help would be appreciated.
Mike

You could hire a boat out of Dalavich, probably still can, park right by the Loch. We'd leave cars and homes unlocked (obviously not with firearms in the equation), lovely area, honest and easy going folks. Ferox trout are the big deal in Loch Awe and brownie fishing there and the surrounding hill lochans (Edeline Estate lochans well worth a cast). Wasn't aware pike are a thing there though.

Thanks Hayduke and Patterdale I will be up in September and I will drive up to have a look, then I will try to fish in October.

Whats the deal with Ferox up there? are fishing permits required. Would love to catch a ferox, but it sounds a little boring, many hours trolling. Cheers.

Ferox trout are a bit of a specialised subject, you can of course 'chuck and chance' it, but the serious guys have specialised kit for the job, and some keep hours not that dissimilar to those for woodland stalking.

Lovely road surface now all along the North side of the loch, mind the verges though, they're as soft as they ever were!

I've just spent a week by Loch Awe but I don't have the patience for fishing. Trout and pike seem to be what excite people there.

The boat hire place place by Ardbrecknish House (South side) isn't hiring at the moment. Getting a boat to hire at Dalavich is tricky as they seem booked out so call in advance to see if you can get a booking. If you're not going for a bit yet, the boat hire place by Ardbrecknish House may be hiring again by then and Cliff seems like a good bloke.

Ferox weren't my bag, The largest ferox in the UK are found in Loch Awe, which probably isn't a surprise as Loch Awe is Scotland's longest loch. Highly specialised fishing. There are a number of ecologists currently studying them, and monitoring their growth and movement year on year, they are remarkable fish. They are way down deep and won't fight like a sea trout, brownie or salmon on the fly.

I preferred heading into the hills for the wee brownies on the fly. There is also great sport to be had fishing for brownies from a boat (or shore) on Loch Awe.

I would love to fish for char there, but never did (yet!), again, pretty interesting and very specialised fishing.

DONT DO IT !!
You may be lucky and succeed first time out, OR, the bug may bite and you may loose a large proportion of your life chasing the elusive beasts. Take it from one who’s been there, done that ! Stalking/shooting is cheaper and less addictive. 😉

You can Not beat pike on the fly :) once you catch one you are hooked for life to catch one again 9ft 9 or 10 weight rod wire leader (airflo) and a fly that looks like half a parrot :) tight lines

All sounds very interesting, fished for ferrox in Ireland, Conn Mask & Corrib, dapping for the large brownies was more fun & productive, since then turned to sea trout in the salt, another fascinating fish, well the same species really.
