Poacher

If your land was gained by a knock on the door and offer of cash with no prior relationship existing then it’s time to wake up and realise while it’s not something decent shooters do.

It’s something a lot of shooters will do…

If the other party is offering 2k more then you have to at least match by the sounds of it.

Again I don’t agree with it, but some people would do anything for stalking rights no matter the moral implications.

This comes up from time to time, I think you've got to see both sides. Everyone says the only way to get stalking is to door knock, and everyone now knows that stalking leases are big business. If I knocked a farmers door tomorrow and he said "yes you can have the Stalking here, it'll cost you xxx" I'd pay the money if I had it.

On the flip side, I don't necessarily agree with individuals/businesses buying up masses ground in order to make more money from client stalking or the increasingly common "mega syndicate" sort of setup you sometimes see.

It is what it is, unfortunately. Some landowners will only ever see ££, some would never sell/lease, and most are probably somewhere in the middle 🤷‍♂️

It used to be a big thing around here for Dutch shooters to come over flashing the cash & taking the ‘stalking’ away from the incumbents who were managing the deer throughout the year. What then happened was that they shot the trophy bucks & left the real management to the estate staff who then struggled to cope due to their other work, eg the keepers having to look after birds & run shoot days then had to shoot does as well. I regularly used to see one group who had the stalking on a number of bits of ground - they had a lwb Nissan Patrol with a trailer for transporting deer. On one occasion driving to work they were parked on the side of the road with one of them using the car roof to shoot over a hedge at a fallow Buck in a roadside field.

I have moved this thread as its not really advertising stalking. Although I fully support what the OP is saying.

There’s been multiple threads started on SD where new stalkers have been advised by members to go and knock on doors and introduce yourself as looking shooting.
Some on SD tell how they’ve offered landowners some service or other and gained free shooting.
Those asking advice here are new to the job and have no way of knowing if there are already people shooting there.
Is this any different?
It’s then down to the owner of the shooting rights what happens next.
Ken.

I have heard same story offering more money to landowners than presently being payed.i hope it happens to the people who think it's OK to try and buy other people's stalking. I believe the chap is ex army .
Does he already have a lease at Belford ?

Some football forwards are referred to as 'poachers'.
I think it's a fair description of someone trying to take advantage of others' work.

Don't get me wrong and don't really have much experience in this sort of thing and yes it really sucks to lose land to someone who has more money (coming from a man who is broke as ****) but you can't really blame the landowner, his land is there to make him money and if someone is going to pay him more money for that land it's a no brainer, works same way with crops you grow one crop but have chance to sow another crop that will give you a high yield and more money why would he not ???
