The first photo is from this morning and the second from this evening. There were 150+ on the field this morning and maybe about 100 this eveningLovely to see.

On a couple of Lochs in Sutherland that I've fished over the years, we've had black throated and red throated divers swimming under the boat as we were fishing, not in the least bothered.Thank you.
The divers are not that common up in Western Ross - we’ve only seen them on two years out of five. On the loch in the photo they now have an artificial island, which seems to be encouraging them. They are very striking birds, both in terms of their appearance and their call.
I am just back home after a trip to Shetland, they are doing really well there, so lovely to hear them everyday. Here in the SW of England they are not as common as they were 30 or 40 years ago.
I love to hear their burbling, musical call of open spaces.
We don't see them where we live but we are taking a holiday on the west coast and the bird life is just much more varied. Over the last week we have also seen, Hen Harriers, a Marsh Harrier, Red kites, a Great Egret and heard (but didn't see) for the first time in my life a Bittern. That’s about the equivalent of entire uk population
That shadow looks like a cave paintingAs evidenced by the shadows, its early AM,fair fugn way off too. I got some handy pics of his big brother that is to his left that have gone to a Mag editor.

I thought that the keen eyed members would note that the wattle (sapling) in front of the `roo had been rubbed/frayed.
