I've been saying how the focus of my deer stalking has changed over the years, how I've less of a drive to kill something these days. Well, as if to prove the point, I saw this lovely wee thing yesterday evening. After having a look at it, taking a photo and being amazed (again) about how my dog completely ignored it I packed up and headed home early. I'd had a good enough evening out with the dog and the landowner isn't hounding me to get numbers this year, I didn't feel like spoiling the moment by dropping a buck just for the sake of it - I must be softening with age

I wonder if the dog ignored it because of a lack of scent? I believe the lack of scent allows the doe/hind to leave the kid/fawn/calf with less risk of being found by a predator until they're a bit more mature and able to leg it?
Nothing wrong with you @geoshot , going stalking doesn't mean you have to shoot everything on sight. Sometimes, it's just nice to sit and watch!
