Looking for ideas on the best way to power my IR Torch (vcsel IR) with a external power bank
Sick and tired of buying 18650 batteries that pack up after a couple of months but have loads of power banks in the house and was wondering if there was a way to use them instead
Any help would be appreciated

Buy decent batteries, properly decent ones like this:

Never had a complaint or issue with a Nitecore battery and the 3400 is the best 'value'.

Even buying re-wrapped batteries from lauded quality internet battery suppliers, I've experienced quite a few duffers myself after a few charges, so I can certainly relate.

That's why we started sourcing our own unprotected cells from bona-fide UK distributors...again zero complaints:

Running from a power bank will be a faff and soon highlight the poor quality of the cells in the power banks, taking you back to square one.

Thanks for the input Clive
Pretty sure I purchased my torch from you anyway
I’ll look into some new batteries but out of interest can it be done though

Sounds like you need to buy some genuine decent 18650 batteries
Any 18650 batteries bought from E Bay or Amazon are almost certainly fake and any you have that claim a capacity of more the 4000mah are definitely fake
Buy from Ecolux shop, Fogstar or Torchy the Battery Boy - they only sell genuine batteries
The best batteries at the moment are the Vapcell N40 and Ampsplus HX40 - both of which are 4000mah and currently that's the highest capacity 18650 possible

I have never had a faulty 18650 until last year when I purchased 4x Soshine 3400 from Torchy boy. One has failed already and no reply to email. Some of my 18650s must be 10 yrs old and still going strong.

A bit surprised by this, I've been buying batteries from Jim for years, the only one that failed was replaced without question and arrived a couple of days after I contacted him to report the problem?

My batteries come from old Toshiba and Hitachi laptops. When they " fail" it's normally only 1 duffer so the others are fine .
And they last years.
As Bruce said most ebay ones are carp especially " opticfire" ,anything on there rated over 3600 mah is normally a load of billhooks
