Price of puppies..

I think a lot of respectable gun dog trainers won’t charge silly, inflated prices. And I think a lot of sensible people looking for a working dog won’t pay it so the prices will be up a bit but not crazy.

Now if you want a “jug” or Frenchie ect then it’s silly money. And also usually these people tend not to have factored in the costs if the pet gets ill..

I’ve wanted a spaniel since I was a boy hearing tales from my grandfather about his and his dads working spaniels. I’ve never really been in a position to get one, though there has been very little time in my lifetime without a dog being around. So when I was furloughed last year I though now is the time to get one of those £300 sprockers, or even push to boat out a couple of hundred for an ESS or cocker. 😲😲😲 I couldn’t believe the prices being asked. I doubt the price will ever come back down and I will not pay these prices especially for a sprocker even though I think they are the most sensible of the cross breeds/ mongrels.

Plenty of dogs need rescuing.

Go and rescue one.
Current dog is a rescue as was her predecessor. There’s a lot of terrier in our dog. She is lightning fast so I think would have made a good ratter/ ferreting dog. We were her second attempt at rehoming. She had originally been abused, still won’t go near anyone with a cigarette, she was eventually picked up by the SSPCA when she had been seen wandering the streets for a while. Still has digestive and skin troubles. But her behavioural problems have all but gone. Big issue left is her reactivity to other dogs when she is on a lead. Off lead she is playful and sociable.

And people suddenly on furlough and as a result wanting a dog are the main reason for the price explosion.
Yep. Back about May I started to see a young ESS pup taking its owner for a walk. Watched it all through the summer and into autumn as it got bigger and stronger and the lead got tighter. Not see it for months now.

The hard part at the minute is dogs being able to travel to mate, getting a pup here is ok through a recognised courier, but everywhere is in the same scenario, lockdowns and not being able to travel as individuals so matings usually require travelling and pairing the right dogs to get the correct lines are usually not near each other, our club had a dog come from CZ last week with an organised courier, fingers crossed the vaccine is doled out and things start moving once again, regards Wayne
Ps if you are looking I would seriously look abroad it will be usually too late looking at the website you need to talk direct to the club and get your name on a list and move things forward that way, good luck

Or look at the websites do your homework ask lots of questions and ask regarding a pup in the next available litter once you've found your ideal breeder,

This will also show that your serious too about a quality dog, as believe it or not many of the European dog men see the uk and how we pour out pups as a joke and not good for the breeds.
But on the flip to that also be aware that there's still sh1t over the channel too so again homework and questions are a must.
Cheers Jimmy
Many thanks for the advice and apologies for the delayed reply. Certainly the testing/breeding standards do seem to produce some fabulous dogs. Good to know that couriers are an option but it does seem a shame not to go over. My wife however does not agree! She wasn't keen on a 16 hr drive even if it did include a trip in the tunnel! She did make a valid point that we haven't seen some close family in over a year and should spend our time doing that once we can - I though that was fair!

Interestingly, I have found descendants of this fine chap not 20 mins from my house. Jukon II vom Liether-Moor
Whether there's any breeding or not going on is another matter. Amazing what turns up when you keep looking! There do seem to a be few litters due in the next few months about the place so I'm making some enquiries this side of the pond for now but a trip to Germany or further afield does sound great and will bear the above advice in mind. Thanks again.

If your after a dog , wait those three grand puppies are going to be free to a good home in 6-18 months time ! Speaking to a fella on the phone today , talk about clueless
People will go back to work , sofas will get chewed , **** will meet the owners when they return back from a day at work when covid is not such a massive threat
My son just paid £500 for an Akita cross greyhound (mongrel) that someone got as a pup and didn't think it would grow so big and they couldn't handle it. Daft if you ask me.
