Price of pups

Just been having a quick look at pups and prices for Rhodesian Ridgebacks - average price £2,000 highest price so far £100 short of £3000.
A quick Google shows some other desirable higher breed prices at £1400 in 2018 - is there no end to greed ?

Yet a stud fee price is less than a quarter of that, yes the prices are ridiculous, my parents recently had kc registered labs, mum didnt want to be part of the crowd and charge a fortune my view on it was if you dont some chancer will come buy two and sell them on for a profit! If people pay the money others will charge them for it.

it simply a factor of lockdown and home working. Lots of people buy dogs because they area at home and some mental prices being paid. I have heard £3000 for Labs.

Pity help the dogs when folk get back to their offices again (if they do that is). My employer was dog friendly and my dog slept below the office desk but we were recently told dogs would no longer be allowed in the office, when we return - one of teh reasons cited was that some many extra people now had dogs.

Another reason that has ne leaning towards continuing to work from home

It’s the lowlife continually prowling around our area on the lookout to steal family pets that really **** me off, they are the lowest form of scum imo.
We had a lovely pair of young bulldog bitches stolen from a garden awhile ago never to be seen again, I hate to think how many litters they’ve had now.
All the time there is this ‘frenzy’ of puppy buying the price will remain high.

Don’t pay these inflated prices. Let the greeders deal with the unwanted pups. The best pups, bred by the best breeders, are the same prices as they were last year
In principle I would agree with you,, but if you need Pup now as your existing workers will be 10 year old next May and you want one to bring on, it is hard to find a reasonable priced pup, I bought a GWP pup in August from good working parents, but had to pay more then I would of liked, other alternatives are possibly being without a suitable dog for 12 months.

No good dogs/good breeders are more expensive than they were last year.

Aye I'd say the same, most are similar prices to normal but most pups will likely be spoken for before born as they most likely don't breed the bitches that often and they are decent bitches to start with.

A mates just lining his quality lab bitch shortly, 900-1k for a pup but that is fully health and DNA tested.
Compared to folk breeding sh*te with no tests or papers and wanting 700 ( that was old prices, haven't quite got my head round these stupid new prices yet)
And there the folk having prices up.

You are correct there pal. Nothing boils my **** as much as this subject. I feel nothing but hatred towards it all but then again I am 100% dogs and not a messer. Words fail me to describe what I think of the set that have jumped on the bandwagon of these exaggerated prices. If I had a “friend” that did this they certainly wouldn’t get spoken to again but luckily all my friends are genuine dog men and not messers

As has already been said and I agree with. I’m after an additional dog. However to get one for next season I’m going to have to cough up the doe! I’m living I hope that that I can pick up a dog at right money once this money fiest is over!

People can and will justify anything to themselves/others. Even someone who commits murder will justify it in their own mind !!!! . “ if I price them low no one will want them” “someone may sell them on” “people will dump them if they don’t pay loads for them” “if they charge big money then so will I”. All utter nonsense. Why don’t greeders just come out with the TRUTH and say “I am using the situation, and my dog, to make a lump of money that I wouldn’t otherwise have had “. Absolute filth

I agree with your ethics, but life isn’t like your ideals.
Market is what it is, be it houses/ vehicles or animals.
All pet Animals prices are now ridiculous, same as Animal food and health care.
No one complained when the house they bought for less 70k is now worth 250k !
Unfortunately if you want a working dog it’s either a 12+ wait or 2k simple as that

No. Absolutely no. A house is bricks and mortar. A car is a metal box. A WORKING dog is the finest animal in the world. If you are involved in WORKING dogs and are now charging these ridiculous prices then words fail me. Get a mongrel cur and peddle them and keep out of the WORKING dog world. Absolute filth

I have not bred any pups or charged any price, But my last springer 12 years ago from FTCH a parent was £700.
My friends Cocker a will bred bitch now 4 was £1000 so yes I agree there’s a lot of poor quality Dogs fetching silly money.
But Ftch parented Cockers by KC accredited breeders are selling between £1600-4000 I don’t know why you are so angry ? If buyers don’t want to pay today’s prices then go without a dog

Supply and demand. If venison prices rose to £5/kg I’m sure 100% of you would take it. Not argue that it was £1/kg 6 months ago so that is all you want.
No. We are talking about WORKING dogs not venison. I am obsessed with quality WORKING dogs. If anyone wants to make big money peddling dogs get a mongrel and crack on. The best dogs/best breeders are the same price as they were.Leave WORKING dogs to people that genuinely cherish them. If you are selling/buying at these huge prices you are dealing with 2nd best, at best !!!! . Absolute filth

I wonder if this conversation will take place in the shooting field/pub when we are allowed back out “hello mate , what have you been up to?” “ oh I’ve just been ripped off by paying £2500 for a rubbish 2nd rate dog bred by a guy that is now choosing a new car whilst laughing at me” .
