Price of stalking

I’ve had this land in my inbox following a enquiry earlier in the year. In order to allow the Estate some protection, I’ve removed a couple of identifying words.
I’m just asking if the membership think this is value for money bearing in mind that currently in Scotland, the deer are apparently an issue, and I believe the Estate would get paid for each carcass by the Scots Government.

plenty of hotels in London are that price.... today, one night of one person at the Savoy is £750 for the cheapest room add £45 if you want breakfast... more for evening meal.... last time I ate there was 1994 and it was £50 a head without drinks.....

the stalking is obviously aimed at high end visitors.... probably have a pheasant shoot for the following days at an arm and leg per bird

I think before too long everyone looking for a trophy stag will realise reds are twice the size in Devon and a fraction of the price. Some people will still go to Scotland for the romance of stalking across the hills but things like this are not going to help them long term

But, are they overcharging if they sell all their days? They're obviously marketing their stag stalking at wealthy, possibly non UK clients.
They're running a business after all.

I'm more shocked at £300 for a 6-pointer Roebuck in fairly uninteresting ground in England.

Whilst the stalking you reference is a massive amount of money, and I wouldn't pay it, it is about the "full-package experience" that is being offered.

It really boils down to being worth what someone will pay for it. A guided elk hunt in my state will cost you that much for one animal and lesser accomodations.

To add that it horrifies us blokes here to read of costs for deer hunting in other places. I get pi$$ed off when my pensioner renewal for 12 months comes in @ $45.70 a year iirc. That`s for unlimited on five species with one species being for a limited season.

When broken down with an all inclusive stay its not that bad.
On the other hand Estates just like any other business are feeling the squeeze, I will say I bet there is not alot of profit in that price.

Not all of Scotland has a deer problem. the price imho is way too much at face value for the offer. Everything is going up in price so estates are increasing prices each year massively. It wasn't uncommon to get a great estate stag for £4-450 around 2021/22 and cheap accommodation so 2 days great stalking for £1000-1100 if one were so inclined. Stalking is moving away from the common man again as we are being priced out.

Scotlands problem is because of this type of stalking. In itself, people will pay it and the estate will keep thousands of deer to supply it. When folk can’t quite afford £7k for a weekend, all of a sudden spending £2k on a syndicate place seems like good value.
You can pay a farmer £5k per year and have the same chance of an excellent stag but I can come every weekend if I want to? I’ll do that then.

This trickles down into the forestry leases and all of the people making money from those until the local guy who could actually do a job is priced out of it from ‘stalkers’ from the south west of England.Then they come for only one weekend a year and nobody ever shoots a deer. It’s been going on for decades.

If there were a vote tomorrow to ban paid stalking in Scotland, I’d be the first to cast in favour.
