Primer tools

good evening all

I’m looking at getting a new priming tool
What’s people’s recommendation at the moment. Half tempted to get a hand priming tool over a bench primer.

TIA

I’ve only ever used a hand primer and it’s RCBS, I was given a Lee hand primer but it’s been in a cupboard above my loading station never used.

Used my Co Ax press for years but due to fat fingers syndrome it got fiddly.
Bought the Frankford Arsenal hand primer & it's a quality bit of kit.Well engineered, consistent primer seating with all the shell holders you could need in a sturdy box.
Well worth considering.

Lee auto bench prime for me now.
just bought it, so easy to use, exact primer loading depth each time, and most important due to arthritis in thumb joints, pain free!

Just starting out in reloading, but the Lee Bench Prime works well for me also. As usual, it has a couple of quirks that need fettling out.

Lee Bench Prime for me too although the plastic springs were a faff in the past and kept breaking but touch wood, have not had that issue for years :thumb:

I had several Lee Autoprimes and they worked well but the monkey metal parts wore out so I replaced the first one with an RCBS hand primer which I liked so much I got a second for small primers. I don’t think I will be able to wear these out in a lifetime of use but that’s why they are a bit more expensive

I found the RCBS 'universal' would not hold on to the small cases every time, so bought a Frankford Arsenal, and just use the RCBS for the 308 and 284.

I was given a second hand RCBS by Mike Norris 20 + years ago and it finally worn out ! Apparently the new version is very good but could not get one so have the new Hornady one to try .

2nd the lee auto bench but if I was you I'd buy a few spare inserts for the size primers you use! as they do pack up after a while due to lees fascination with plastic moving parts. I have had mine a few years now change two heads out and its done tho's of primers.

I like the idea of a ram prime as that’s what I have been using at a friends. May have to invest in both and see what I get on with

As above I used to use a Lee auto but it didn't like the Magtech lrp I'm being forced to use, they can be quite tight. I've now started using the RCBS hand primer. It's much better made and doesn't feel like it's about to break.

Hi
Any one used to derraco pcps press mounted primers, what's your thoughts on it,
I have the basic one where you just seat the primer in until fully seated, not the one where you can adjust the depth.
I have set up two, one for LR and one for SR. They work fine but am still experimenting between them and the Forster bench mounted primer, at the moment I am favouring the Forster, but only because I can mount it on the left hand side of my bench in the vice.
I suspect the Derraco`s will be moved on soon.
