Hope this is the right section, please feel free to move if not.
I am looking for insurance for my road reg quad, where do you guys go, and what sort of price should I be looking for, had one quote from the Nfu at £400 a yr so far.

Try adrian flux insurance

£400 sounds a lot, when I can insure my two wheeled motorcycle, litre size engine and can top 150mph (although I don't) for £130. Admittedly with oodles of no claims bonus. Maybe they think that quads are more of a risk.

Agri reg. If it was fully road registered, I’d be using it every day at that rate

Mine’s Agri reg and I do use it on the road nearly every (other) day. Despite the word to the contrary being out on some forums, there’s no road mileage restrictions on Agri registered quads.

Interesting, but I am guessing it must be a journey related to the farm ?

Performance direct quoted me £208 fully comp, or £108 third party f + t, doesn’t look like it will get much better than that and it’s half what the nfu quoted me, so,cheers for the heads up Watson, appreciate all the help and suggestions.

Anyone can have an Agri registered quad or other vehicle, it’s not limited to ‘farm’ related ones - I live in the centre of town (albeit a rural one) and mine is Agri registered.

When it comes to road use the DVLA webpage is deliberately obtuse, which is why so many confuse vehicles registered as ‘limited use’ - which are limited to using public roads between different areas of land in the same occupation not exceeding 1.5km travelled - and Agri registration, which have unlimited road usage.

Here’s chapter and verse from the DVLA:

“If the vehicle is registered as an agricultural vehicle (quad), you are able to use it on the road as long as it is used for purposes relating to agriculture; horticulture; forestry or activities falling within cutting grass verges; trees or hedges that border public roads. There is no restriction on distance.”

How you apply the ‘related purpose’ you are using the quad for at any given time is up you. ;)

Thanks for they, something I had never bothered reading up on but well worth knowing

It’ll be in the V5C Registration Certificate:

(X) Taxation Class - Agricultural Machine
