I think it reasonable to prepare for a full lead ban because that is what the green nutters want and, especially if there is a hung Parliment, that is what they will get.
I've been saying it for some time here, and on AR I suspect before I came on here: the green nutters are paying for "research" into the "damage" the lead in bullets does not just to animals and in the food chain but also in the back stops at ranges. They are attacking it from every angle and are gathering the "science" to support their claim. The science journals not infrequently carry research papers on the danger of lead bullets in this, or for that. What have we got to counter this science? Remember the man made global warming scam? Remember the recent stories surrounding leaked emails showing that a whole research unit in a UK university were basically making stuff up, related to the man made warming scam, for papers published in science journals? What do you think motivated that? The very same people are just waiting to come out in support of the anti-lead campaign and it will have the same, if somewhat downscaled, PR machine working away behind it.
I think the green nutters learned a vital lesson with the fox hunting "ban" in that it was an utter failure for them. They can see that the route to a real ban wasn't to attack the method of hunting but rather the means of hunting. If they had shown that keeping hounds for hunting was cruel and had hounds banned then they would have had a success. They aren't going to make that mistake with shooting and so they are not going to attack what we do, or the precise reasons why we do it, they are going to attack the actual means by which we kill things, or put holes in targets, until our access to that means is removed. First lead bullets will go, then we will find that, all of a sudden, there is "sicence" to show that monometal bullets are dangerous for some reason and that they all kill babies on Christmas Day.
So, if anyone does go to the AGM perhaps it will be useful to ask exactly what the strategy to retain lead bullets, or any other bullets for shooting, is? I don't mean the "oh we will defend our position..." randomly made up stock replies but rather a detailed plan to defeat the green nutters on this one. Trust me, they have a plan and a long term strategy and we will have a communications centre where BASC glorious leaders can sit around telling the press how terrible it is that they are not allowed to shoot any more.
